I like the thick plastic case I have my iPod Touch in... it's still far thinner than first generation iPods, and if I drop it, kick it, spill water on it, drop it on the worksite, I don't worry about it. I suggest you look for one of those, the plastics only about a quarter of an inch thick, but the protection you gain is well worth the extra bulk.

i have tried this, it's easer to use a first generation iphone because the later generation uses a frequency on at&t towers that's different from Verizon towers

What can I say, the iPhone is the best multimedia smart phone on the market and has thousands of possibilities.

The plan is simple. Jail broken iPhone. Apple's iPhone video cable for external video. Tie the audio into the car's audio system. A OBD-II to WiFi adapter.

The rest will be just some plan old apps. Rev for the OBD-II scanning. TomTom for GPS, 3Proxy for a Mobile WiFi hotspot and to help things out Backgrounder so I can some what a multitask setup.

I had 2.2.1 on my phone and it was jail broken. I finally filled up my 1GB root partition and decided to upgrade to 3.0 and make the root partition 4GB.
