Anybody willing to help with a Now X problem?

Posted by: Jim_
on: 04/28/11 07:58 PM

Welcome. As you see it's time to start considering migrating from Now products if you ever plan on upgrading hardware or the operating system.

In theory your plan should work. The purpose of TM is to go back in time.

Just make sure that before you do it that TM has backed up recently.

In worst case if anything goes awry you can restore the whole computer from the last point in time backup. It works like charm too.

HTH

You should be fine as long as you keep a copy of the most recent database, which would be available in TM, or you can copy it manually to be sure.

Posted by: ronr
on: 04/11/10 07:28 AM

Final solution was very basic and low-tech. I just put the e-mail fields in the right columns of a list, opened the details window to the right of that, and just clicked down the list and changed "Email1" to "Work" and "Email2" to "Home" or "Other".
Trial license expiring?

Posted by: John Wallace
on: 01/20/10 08:42 AM

Now X has a 30-day free trial. At the end of that time the software cannot be used until after a license is purchased. (If you have already purchased a license, and are seeing a message saying your trial will expire, please read #1 below.)

Before the software expires you will begin to see a window that tells you the expiration date. You may be seeing this window for one of two reasons:

#1. For some users this happens because they have purchased a license but have multiple accounts. For example, they purchased using joeschmoe@aol.com but are currently logging in using their j_schmoe@gmail.com account. In that case we merge their information so that j_schmoe@gmail.com also has the purchased license. After that they can log in from either account without getting that message. If you have purchased a license and are receiving that message, you can either send me a private message telling me your email accounts, or send an email to registration@nowsoftware.com. We will then adjust our records and the next time you start Now X that message will go away.

#2. For some users this happens because they have not yet purchased a license and their 30-day trial period is set to expire. If that's the case, you can purchase a license by going to http://www.nowsoftware.com/store/ or by calling us at 800-344-9160 or 614-413-4000.

Iphone (or other) syncing, step by step

Posted by: cvbcvb
on: 08/21/10 01:36 AM

Try this (make sure you have a backup of everything, of course...).

To start a fresh/new Import from NUDC to Now X (and thus Address Book/iCal):

1. Open System Preferences, Mobile Me, Sync. Uncheck “Synchronize With Mobile Me”.
2. Open Now X (make sure you are using the last version 10.0.4), got to Preferences, Sync, Utilities. Click Clear Address Book, Clear iCal, Reset Sync Services.
3. Back to Preferences, Database, Maintenance. Click Clear/Clear Database.
4. Now X will now import your Contacts and Calendar from NUDC.
5. Upon Import completion, Click on the 3 tabs at the bottom of the Now X Window: Categories, Tags, Activity.
6. Go to File, Sync/Advanced Sync. Click on Slow Sync for both Contacts & Calendar. You should see this process in the “Activity” window.
7. Upon Completion, you should now have your Contacts & Calendar in Address Book & iCal. Open each and confirm all is well.
8. Quit Now X.
9. Return to System Preferences, Mobile Me, Sync. Check “Synchronize With Mobile Me”. A dialogue box will ask / Click on More Options - then adjust Contacts & Calendar to “Replace data on Mobile Me from Computer“.
10. You should now have NUDC info imported into Now X, Address Book, iCal & Mobile Me.

CVB

What is the difference between a Tab, a Set, and a Style?

Posted by: smwallace
on: 06/28/09 01:22 PM

Now X has several new aspects designed to allow you to easily configure the product. Some of these ideas were present in Now Up-to-Date and Contact, but in Now X we've taken these concepts a little further. So, here is an explanation of the hierarchy and relationship between Tabs, Sets, and Styles.

A Window contains one or more Tabs.

A Tab controls what panels are displayed: whether the category, tag, activity, mini-month, task list, or inline detail view panels are displayed; which panel is the main panel in the middle of the window; what the size of the window and the various panels within it are, and what the current search text is for filtering.

A Tab also has one Set associated with it. The Set controls which categories and tags are turned on or off, which controls what data is displayed.

A Tab also has one Style associated with it. The Style controls how data is displayed: what font typeface and size are used; whether day names are shown; what columns are displayed in lists and what the sort order is; background colors for various types of day cells; what event types are displayed; whether word wrapping is turned on or off, etc. Basically, anything set in the Properties panels are stored in the Style.

In previous versions of Now X, all this data was stored in a "Tab", which we found was not flexible enough to accommodate having multiple workspace windows open. If everything was stored in a Tab, you'd have to recreate the list of categories you want to see data for, plus all your panel properties every time you opened a new window. But, with separate Sets and Styles, you can reuse this information in multiple workspace windows much more conveniently. The only structure that does not cross window boundaries is the Tab itself, which belongs to only one Window at a time.

Launch the Console application at /Applications/Utilities/Console.app
2. Select All Messages in the area on the left of the window (see above).
QuickContact or QuickDay don't appear in menubar

Posted by: John Wallace
on: 03/12/09 07:41 AM

If your QuickContact or QuickDay items don't appear in the menubar, try the following:

1. In the Finder, go to the /Applications/Now X folder.
2. Control click on Now X.app and choose "Show Package Contents".
3. Go into the resulting Contents folder, and then into the MenuExtras folder.
4. Double-click on CalendarMenuExtra.menu and ContactMenuExtra.menu.

At that point they will be launched and should appear in the menubar.

NOTE: this is a workaround for a bug in PB1. It will be fixed in an upcoming beta.
