Hi All-

I've dropped my laptop a few too many times, so the screen has had a 1.5 inch stripe running up and down that flickered in and out functionality. I finally ordered the replacement screen, which I installed over the weekend. I used the High Res Screen (1680x1050 - it was only $30 more, so I figured I may as well), which was originally not available for this model of Mac, and is still a BTO option in the store. The replacement has worked excellently; no more flicker. But, the max resolution I see is 1440x900. I've restarted a few times, and switched the graphics from the 9400M to the 9600M GT, but still no change.

Does anyone know what I'd need to do to add 1680x1050 resolution to the options?

I have obtained said laptop (for $25 AUD :D), and am in the process of refurbishing it (missing ram/hdd and broken screen, ant nests inside on heatsyncs and mold/corrosion splotching the case). I have cleaned the inside and out, added some ram and hdd, and detatched the screen (including webcam). Everything north of the screen hinges is removed. Will it be safe to boot this system without the screen? Will the OS installer run with an external DVI/VGA screen?

Also, will this apple motherboard adjust for the ddr2 being 1GB @ 533, when the original ram was 2GB @ 667?

Sorry if I'm asking general knowlege here, but this is my first mac, and i'm scared with the lack of bios (where I could set the ram speed/boot device etc) :P

There is a mod for this but you won't like it.

Because it disables your airport card.

hello.

I have a 15" 1GHz G4 aluminium powerbook but no backlit keyboard.

a friend at a service point told me that my portuguese keyboard already has the lights since it was costly for apple to make localized keyboards with and without lights. but he could not confirm that I only need the two light sensors.

can anyone confirm this?

I know this thread is quite old but, I just have to say the following.

PowerBook G3 Series Rev 2, 266Mhz, 256MB RAM, 40GB HD, 10.3.x client.

The OS you see is 8.6, IIRC I copied the contents of the disk image on an iMac restore CD.

I can't do this again though as I no longer have any Macs running Panther. (My PDQ was the last and aside from being upped to 300Mhz, 384MB RAM, Linksys WPC54G, macally FireWire PCcard, it is running Tiger better than Panther(always has) so I have no reason to go back.)

It takes some trial and error to get linux on a 1400, but it most certainly can be done.  I have a pair of 1400's here that used to boot linux.  I did it as a novelty really, but the last Apple distribution of MKlinux works with a few patched files that I found on sourceforge and a patched loader.

I originally wanted to tinker with linux since I could not get my ancient WaveLAN card to function properly under any other system then 8.6, which was too heavy for the 40M of ram, so I figured that a stripped-down Linux build would run faster... but I have since gotten the card working 100% under 7.6.1, so I ditched the linux idea since it runs adequately fast on bothgh my 117mHz/16Meg machine and my 166mHz/40Meg machine.]]> Sat, 15 Sep 2007 13:07:19 PDT http://forums.applecentral.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/471930#Post471930
