Ive always wanted to build my own mac with my own parts, but hackintosh's are neither easy nor reliable, so i decided to break down a mac and build it up again into a desk top pc with my own case design. I was stuck on either a mac mini or a macbook conversion, but i decided on a macbook as there are many for sale on places such as ebay with faulty screens / keyboards (items i do not need.)
I was just wondering what, if any, problems i am likely to encounter when i manage to start on my project, and also any hints / tips etc.
My plan was to test run it on an external monitor to check everything works, then disassemble the whole thing and build it into a case i have designed but not made yet.

As with legomactrumpet the ports and drives will be misplaced... Perhaps you would have to create the case, copy Apple's new milling idea and do a milled clear plastic. It would look amazing, like a skeletonized computer.

Building a case is easy as long as you know the basics like measurements and tinsel strength. I use to build media evil 16th century armor and have built a few cases from scratch so if you need any tips let me know.

It sounds like he is sticking a PC motherboard into an Apple case. If that is the situation then just match the PSU to the PC mobo. Grab a 450-550w Seasonic or Corsair. You might have to slightly trim the rear plastic of the case I think.. but it should fit inside the case decently.

Okay, Since nobody posted, I just went ahead and tried it. I used a screwdriver to pop all the keys off. I went to put them back in place, and realized that the hooks on the backs of a few of the keys were broken. I had to use epoxy to glue them back in place. After that, I decided, well, I might as well continue, so I put them back on in Dvorak layout. The only bother is that I lost my numpad, and the numbers are all in random places, but eventually I will sand them off. If anyone else wants to do this, be sure to pry the keys from the top, not bottom or sides.

Just an update. The G3 iBook battery cover is the same size as the G4. I was able to get my hands on a clear one, and got it painted to match. Looks sweet now.
