Yeah, looked it up. Some interesting tidbits. Barris did various things, like penning the song Palisades Park, before getting involved in TV. He was eventually put in charge of choosing the game show line up for NBC. He thought the ideas were so uninspired that he asked to produce his own and came up with the Dating Game and the Newlywed Game. When he came up with the Gong Show, the host they had hired dropped out very late because the planned host was under the misunderstanding that it was a serious talent show, and balked when he realized otherwise. It was too late to get a replacement, so the shy Barris decided to do it himself.
