Synced to another iTunes

Synced to another iTunes - 08/01/11 04:20 AM

So I did a clean install of Snow Leopard then Lion. Hooked up iPad to the iMac to sync and update it. Got this message about the iPad already being synced to another iTunes and asked if i wanted to sync/erase it with this one. And how I would lose everything!

Ok, so I don't want to lose my contacts or bookmarks. I can't bring them back from Time Machine because for some reason Lion doesn't see my Time Machine currently. (Waiting on delivery of another Thermaltake for the HD)

So, if I sync, how can I force my iMac to accept what's on my iPad and not replace it? I want my iMac to sync to my iPad if possible....possible?

I think that refers to what's in iTunes, music, video, etc, and not contacts or calendars. You can choose to manually sync in the Summary tab.

What Thermaltake product are you waiting on, a fan? They make everything from HD and computer cases to cooling systems.

Edit - This may help too.

I'm going to order this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153066

I have one already and it works great!

Thanks for the discussions thread, that's exactly what I needed!

That's right, you have that dock, hand dandy device.

For now, Launch iTunes before connecting the iPad, then go to Preferences/Devices and set it to not Sync automatically.

On my iPod, no iPad frown , when it's connected it shows in the Finder and I can go to a Finder window and open it up and there are folders called Contacts and Calendars. You can copy these to the computer as a backup, then import them into Address Book and iCal on the computer. There is a file called iSync.vcf which is your Address Book, and the calendars are named the same as your Calendars.

iCal seems to import all dates, to do's, alarms etc just fine, but the Address book import on my iPod doesn't copy over any Groups info.

I don't know about bookmarks, don't have Safari on the iPod, see what other folders there may be on it.

Make sure you copy them to the iMac before trying anything so you have a backup.

You must have a firewire iPod because ever since Apple switched to the USB version, it doesn't appear on the desktop/finder. So there goes that idea, thanks anyway.

I connect mine with USB, but it is an older iPod and can connect with firewire too. As usual Apple has locked their stuff down.

This may work. It has a 100 MB limit on the demo, which should be enough for you to get your stuff, if it's there in a form that's importable to the iMac. It's not a jailbreak, it runs on the computer. You will probably need MacFuse too. I don't know if it's included in the installer above.

Or you can just wait on the dock to come in if you don't want to do that.
