Google using remote kill switch to swat Android malware apps

Google also intends to adopt some measures that will block malicious applications with similar behavior from being distributed through the Android Market

So, does this mean that Google will adopt, Apples (Closed Garden Approach) like checking to see if there are rotten Apples in your market laugh before it gets to customers.

Google's response is reasonable, but it's troubling that many users will have to rely on the mobile carriers in order to get critical security updates. The problem reflects a serious weakness in Android's decentralized update model.

I agree Zwei.

Still Apple has over 300,000 apps - that has to be a greater target than Google meager 50,000. Then you have those that tout how great Open Source is compared to Apples closed system is <-- This proves clearly that there are risk, not to mention Android users are already complaining, when is their next OS update ? ? no one knows.

With Apple you can bet on an OS update / hardware every 12 to 14 months.

Iíve actually seen Android zealots putting Apple down because Apple has a mechanism to remotely shut down an app on YOUR phone that YOU chose to install!

When in fact* Google and Apple BOTH have that ability... and as far as I know, only Google has actually used it!

(* Facts are not the Apple-haterís best friend :p )

And unless apple misses something big in the approval process they probably won't use it. Android on the other hand may be doing this daily before it's over with ...unless they implement some sort of screening process

Right, Zwei

I believe Google was going totally on the (honor) system - Then they got tag, with bad shiit, in their store. After all you claim to be Open, sorta like a prostitute anything goes.

Crappiest part for users is the fact that the baddies already got their information. Pulling the app afterwards doesn't really help them.
