Jailbreaking iPhone 3G with 3.1.3? - 06/15/10 11:10 AM

Anyone have experience? Is it possible? A friend of mine is headed to South Africa and Europe for the summer and would like to take along his iPhone.

We tried jailbreaking it last night, but no matter what we did, we were told that we had the wrong ipsw file. FWIW, I'm not really all that sure WHAT we were doing... I think the software we were using was attempting to set the firmware back to 3.1.2.

i am using the beta for 4, but i am planning on reverting back to 3.x and jailbreaking to try it out before i upgrade to a new phone. i haven't tried it, but i was thinking i'd use Spirit: http://spiritjb.com/

We didn't have enough time to try again before he left. I can't remember the softwares we were using, but I've got an identical phone here on my desk that I'm going to futz around with today. Looks like Spirit might be just as good as anything else!

Well... that was super easy. Now, do you guys have any suggestions for unlocking this thing? The owner would like to use it on T-Mobile.
