No surprises there. Just S.O.P. for him. The Obama hug during the hurricane aftermath pretty much rendered him un-nominatable. And if he's able to slip past the far right ultra-conservatives, this makes him unelectable.

The only real moderate Pub(e) has really shot himself in the foot.

It seems Hillary Clinton is looking stronger every day. She generates far more interest staying out of the race than staying in. I bet she could wait until the last possible filing day for the Presidency and still at the very least put in a very good showing. I am not in love with her particularly, but after the dark ages of the Bush years I really want to see the Pubes out in the cold for a good long time until they can come back in whatever name as a legitimate opposition party with a workable agenda.

So they haven't connected him directly yet, BUT I can't believe it won't come out soon...

Yes. So what happens if Hillary, or any Democrat wins the next election. Will the GOP muddle through?...or will this be the straw that breaks the camels back?
What Phoenix, if any, will arise from those ashes. Will it be more moderate... or will it be the most Tea Party, fundamentalist, self proclaimed Christian army the world (or at least the U.S.) has ever seen?

If we inaugurate Hillary (read: a woman in the Oval Office is almost as bad as a black person), I expect the latter on the assumption that the Dems will come close but not quite retake the House 2014. IMHO, the far right has managed to integrate misogyny and racism (with economic classism as an accessory) and it will be business as usual until 2018 — because even if the Dems succeed '16, it will take another cycle to fully fumigate Congress.

Okay, so can anybody explain simply in a couple of sentences or less, and without having to watch an hour of video or read pages of a recap of what happened and who it affected, what he had against Fort Lee, why did he do it.

As I understand it:

-- Christie in a reelection bid

-- Mayor of Ft. Lee declines to endorse Christie for reelection

-- In retaliation (so the story goes), Christie aides, who apparently have influence with the NJ transit authority -- in this case, specifically the authority controlling the George Washington Bridge (which is in Ft. Lee and is the busiest bridge in the world) -- caused four of the five lanes of bridge traffic to be blocked for four consecutive days.

-- Traffic mayhem ensues, jams occur, schoolchildren in busses cry, dogs and cats sleep together

THE END

Re: Typical Rethuglican tactics... - 01/09/14 10:05 AM

The perp, David Wildstein, has a long history of vindictive behavior, and he and Christie were HS chums. Within his repertoire of revenge tactics is buying up web domains based on the names of whomever pissed him off and then redirecting those urls to websites that would annoy, harm, or discredit his victim. For example, he did just that to the reporter that broke the story (and has been developing it ever since) and redirected the URL to a competing newspaper.

There's no proof yet that Christie was hands-on and he's denied being aware of what his people were up to. We'll see where that lands. But there's little doubt that His Guvness created an environment within his administration that at best encouraged such behavior, and at worst, enabled it. Pretty sleazy no matter how you slice it.

Here's my take on it:

I don't think he was directly involved or pulled any levers. But I think he was was aware of the broad concept of the thing and may not have thought his people would actually execute. I'm betting his position was That's crazy and I don't wanna know or hear anything more about it and if you go foreword, you're on your own.

I can imagine him bitching and moaning to his staff a/b having his endorsement dissed by the mayor. Whining in such a contrived and controlling way that his loyalists felt obligated to exact revenge on his behalf.

That's my fantasy and I'm stickin' to to! grin

Re: Typical Rethuglican tactics... - 01/09/14 05:15 PM

AND at best... "Mr Control Freak" was totally naive what was going on in his own administration (asleep at the wheel).

#2 -when clued on this (news story been going on for 4 months) he treated it as a joke instead of "Ex-Prosecuter Christie" asking his staff appropriate questions ... he did this for WEEKS... not just once ! Talked about being the cone man !! blush

SO even if he is absolved of directly ordering it, or even knowing and winking... he looks out of control of his own people... he said some LIED to him... as an Ex-Prosecuter, you never even bothered to check ANY facts whatsoever ?? extremely embarrassing at best. How would he handle 10X the staff and Departments on the National level ? shocked

I still believe his story has many holes !!

What he did to the Mayor of Fort Lee
was meant to Send A Message to OTHERS
of how "Life Can Be Made 'DIFFICULT'"
for anyone who withheld an endorsement
for BOTH His Gov. & Presidential Bid.

BTW:
Chocking-Off Traffic on the GW Bridge
does FAR MORE than inconvenience the
commuters ON THE BRIDGE...
You have to consider that Ft Lee is an
Old Town with Narrow Streets located where
several MAJOR HIGHWAYS CONVERGE:
The New Jersey Turnpike, Interstate 80,
State Highways 1, 4, 9, 46, 67 ..not to
mention local city traffic. Closing that
off WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE (To allow folks
to find alternative routes into NYCity)
would have thousands upon thousands of
vehicles pouring into and hoplessly
clogging every street and intersection
in Fort Lee and surrounding towns...
...AND THIS WENT ON FOR 4 DAYS!

Can't be any worse than the media jam-up we're experiencing now. You can't open a news site, a blog, a retail coupon, or a f'n napkin without corner-to-cornert Christie! mad Granted, this is an example of political and moral skankery at it's worst. But c'mon, people, there IS other news. Important news. Hell, Fallujah 2.0 is in full swing, The assault on social issues — marriage equality, the UI extension, minimum wage, women's reproductive rights, voter suppression, cripple the ACA, and on and on — is ramping up as if the 2012 elections are still six months away… eek

Re: Typical Rethuglican tactics... - 01/10/14 10:40 AM

Rachel Maddow had a different …and more logical … take on the situation. This was payback for the state senate democrats blocking Christie's appointtees after he trashed a democratic Supreme Court justice's lifetime appointment in 2010. Christie lashed out publicly the afternoon prior to the bridge shutdown. Christie was so pissed he blocked the lifetime appointment of another supreme court justice, a republican and his friend, just to spite the democrats! He let loose on the state's sentate democrats, the senate leader directly. The Senate leader's district is Fort Lee. The memo went out at 7am the next morning to cause some traffic.

Very possible the Fort Lee mayor's endorsement is the media barking up the wrong tree.

Re: Typical Rethuglican tactics... - 01/10/14 11:29 AM

It's that it happened more than why. I still can't say he was hands-on, but I have no doubt he had at least some knowledge of it. A common trait among bullies is to be manipulative — and it's easy to see how he manipulated his people into doing this. And now he's trying to paint himself as the victim. More manipulation. But this time, I think it's gonna be No Sale, Guv!

worked to lift cities like Newark, Camdon, & Ft Lee
out of the most dismal straits (Near Bankruptcy &
being just short of being slated for demolition)
and restoring hope & pride back to the communities.
I can see the positive changes First Hand every
time I drive through The City of Newark... the
REMARKABLE Changes brought about by mayors like
Cory Booker IN SPITE of Christie's CONSERVATIVE
stonewalling & foot dragging at every opportunity.

Chris Christie has fought them at every turn in
order to score political points for himself toward
his Presidential Aspirations over our dead bodies.

It was making me crazy that he'd twisted the Mega
Hurricane Disaster into The PHOTO OP of the CENTURY
that millions of Americans based their opinion of
him upon ..because they knew nothing else about
his mean, petty, vindictive, manipulative, self-
aggrandizing BS that New Jersians have dealt with.

Sorry.. it was making me crazy to think of him
Inflicting his HYPER AUSTERITY Philosophy (consider
PAUL RYAN On STEROIDS!!! crazy ) on the Entire Country

..and it's ALL BS!
Pinching Pennies on Civic Improvement Projects...
then pulling Billion Dollar STUNTS just to score
