Australia - 09/04/13 12:33 PM

So what besides the accent lets you know this discussion is not taking place in the US of A?

Except that Liberals are "righties"
and Conservatives are "lefties"
you'd be shocked how similar
their politic are.

In their case it's the Liberals
who are the "penny-pinching twats"! mad

um... I mean who insist upon "austerity". blush

Re: Australia - 09/04/13 01:42 PM

I work with an Australian who comments on the politics there quite a bit. I think he just went to vote at the embassy in Tokyo yesterday. His says in some ways it's all a bit academic, because Australia is in pretty good shape, at least financially.

Yes Tony Abbott, butt of endless jokes, and not for lack of trying. I am not sure how someone with his lack of people skills among other things ever got to be head of a major political party.

Here is the weirdest clip I have seen. Tony Abbott is asked about a comment he made sometime earlier to a soldier that people found insensitive. He says he was taken out of context, and for the rest of the interview he just stands there! Why doesn't he say "you've heard my answer" and go?! Weird stuff.

Here's another guy, same Liberal party, looking like a complete idiot. Good to know this stuff is not at all confined to the US.

The version I originally saw didn't have people laughing in the background but oh well.

Not only are their debates more "robust"
but it's mandatory that everyone participate!

They levy a FINE if you don't Vote
in every single election on every level.

Yes, my co-worker is going to be in a very sullen mood tomorrow. Many say Abbot and co. won because Rupert went all out with his media empire over there.
