Bunch of BS and hype. There's nothing affordable about my health insurance going up 15% last summer and 33% next month. mad

He dropped the ball by letting insurers rape us before anything kicked in. Chicken shˇt didn't want to screw up an election or something. Any "savings" coming up has been wiped out for years with the increases.

I'm very disappointed in a lot Obama has not done.

You could drop that policy like a hot potato and shop the exchanges for a better deal, or use the exchange pricing for leverage.

THANX!
Sure glad the Mayan Apocalypse
didn’t stop it “dead in it’s tracks”
crazy

but seriously
"THEY" should have done more to clarify options
thereby making it easier to understand so we
could make more informed decisions.

Allowing the GOP to set the narrative from the
outset wasn't, at least IMHO, a good move. eek

ANYWAY
I still don't know what to expect on disability,
I WE got royally screwed under "HilaryCare"
(The HMO System that Privatized public clinics.)

For a lot of people, it's going to work out very well. For others, not so much. But rather than comparing what rates you get now vs. what you will be getting under the ACA, you should be comparing rates you'll get under the ACA vs. what they would have been had nothing passed.

Will the effect of ACA on insurance rates -- even with insurers ramping them up in the interim period -- bring them below what they would have been at this point in a non-ACA scenario? Even if it's break-even it's still a win because more people will be insured ...

Also, if you're self-employed, definitely look into the Exchanges -- I know I will be =)

What Six said. In the meantime, if you wanna be pissed off at anyone, it should be the insurance companies who've decided to hose their policy holders while they still can.

My wife's insurance has suddenly decided that we have to produce proof that we are married so that they will continue coverage for me as a dependent. They want a copy of our marriage certificate (like we know where that is after 34 years)! wtf?

We are in the gray zone before the Affordable Health Care act becomes law.
Insurance companies will do everything and anything they can to take advantage.
Like requiring my Mothers primary doctor to fill out a referral form every time she uses Medicare. mad

For my latest blood work for my cancer screening, the hospital charged and Medacare paid $750.

I talked to a technician that does the testing. He says it cost about $0.86 .

But, hey. I have no choice. On that.

Jim- what Steve said. Blame the insurance co not BO. Same with marriage certificate! This is EXACTLY what they're hoping. Give it a year and see if it drops. Who are you with?

MrB I doubt the test costs 86 cents, you've got expensive tech labor and cost of instruments and reagents. I doubt it cost $750, but more in range of $50 or so. those machines also have to be calibrated and routinely inspected.

That's a 100,000% markup! eek I wish I could make that kind of margin. laugh

But the hospitals do gouge the hell out of patients. Last year I had to go to the ER for what I thought was a bad ankle sprain. The charged me nearly $40 for an air splint that sells online for $15. And I have no doubt that if I had been on Medicare at that time, they'd have charged the program $60. mad

NO Steve, tell me it isn't so !! whistle

THAT's exactly why I don't trust the insurance companies - they're as bad as the Drs and medical providers. Can't tell you how many time I've been double billed. They want their $ yesterday but takes 6 weeks to show up in your account !! mad

that's how we pay for the uninsured in this country.

I think he was referring to test itself. I assume during the test that solutions are used. But, this is the number he said.

When they get blood from me they access my Port in my chest which requires a kit that is discarded . Where as if they poked my arm it would be just a needle.

David, on another matter, I was recently relinquished blood for a Hepatitis and HIV test. They took four vials of blood. To your knowledge, why so many?

Yes I am and I will be looking into those. Thanks guys, I had not heard of those.

I have broker that has always helped me find a good deal, I usually switched every 1 to 3 years. Joined a group, as the group rates changed with attrition etc he'd find another group. About 4 years or so back he said it wan't as competitive and what I had was the best he could do. Hopefully this will change things. I got in touch with him again to see if it's changed.

My family Anthem Blue Cross policy dropped about $40/mo and in June we received a "refund" check of about $200. This was due to ACA regulation in California in effect 2013.

CA is putting a lot of effort to make the Exchange work as intended for customers --- goes live January 1. We'll shop then to see if we get a better deal then, and the indictions are we may save almost 50% for a similar policy that we have now.

If you live in a state where the Republican legislature are actively delaying and/or killing ACA start up, then that sucks and they want you to hate Obama for it.

Geeze!
At that rate
(or should I say THOSE RATES) I hope Obama
starts working on Automobile Insurance!

New Jersey Auto Insurance here in the
Auto-Theft/Chop-Shop Capital of the World
are absolutely OBSCENE! frown

My rates that only cover "The OTHER Guy"
and for a perfect record-- no accidents,
no claims, and a perfect payment record..
jumped $40 per month this year... and $50
per the year before that. frown

If I could walk to a bus-stop I'd sell my
impeccable 1997 Special Edition Buick,
but them how would I transport my seated
walker AND groceries

The last time I spoke to my agent, I accused
her of "RAPE!" blush

We both had a larf @ that... but I was still
left paying the $290 per month. frown

OK...

addressing Mr.B's tragic recent scare
(and ensuing $260 bloodtests)
Few of you know that I'd gone through a similar
operation (with the same long term failure to heal)
and thus the same series of medical nitemares
ever since
Click to reveal..

...so I just got more bloodtests JUST YESTERDAY
(no big deal.. you get used to it after a while)
HOWEVER... This BT for THIS Particular Doctor
(My Primary Physician) was on Top Of the one
6 vile bloodtest the week BEFORE from my
Rheumatologist, (The last of series 3 6-vile
BT for auto-immune fukups going on)

My point being;
When people ask How Can INVESTING MORE FUNDS
into the system, ever expect to CUT COSTS?

Easy...
...I have FIVE different Doctors, all doing
one test after another to "RULE-OUT" possible
causes/proposed treatment for my disability,
YET NONE OF THEM ARE SHARING THEIR FINDINGS!

One of the items in the ACA is a WORLDWIDE
COMPUTERIZED DATA-BASE wherein even if I'm
struck-down in FRANCE (ferfuksake) they can
Zone in on PROBABLE CAUSE/TREATMENT within
MINUTES! --- or does That Make Too Much Sense? smirk

...because As It Stands...
my records are SCATTERED thoughout North Jersey
in a Series of THICK MANILLA FOLDERS, Filled
to overflowing with UNREADABLE Chicken Scratch
that's doing NO ONE (esp. ME!) Much Good. eek

IOW
The result of a long series of EXPENSIVE Tests
that Doctors & Hospitals are unable to Share.
