RIP Frank Lautenberg - 06/03/13 08:58 AM

.
New Jersey (D)Sen. Lautenberg Dead at Age 89

Trust me...
...he will be missed. frown

Quote:
"Frank was a passionate public servant who was not afraid to fight and
vote for what he believed in. He loved the Senate," said Sen. Patty
Murray, D-Wash. "He retired once but service called him back, and
until the very end of his life, Frank made the trip from New Jersey to
D.C. to fight for the issues he believed in and the people he
represented. He gave everything he had to public service."

Republican Gov. Chris Christie, whom the Democrat Lautenberg
frequently criticized, will appoint a successor and a special election will
determine a replacement.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker had announced
his intention to run and had raised some $2 million.

He was a decent and honest politician who cared for the people he represented in New Jersey. He fought for good issues and obtained a lot of them in his career. Gone but not forgotten.

Indeed. frown

Lautenberg was Just as "'Jersey"
as Chris Christie... a tenacious
fighter and advocate for the People...
...and not just the People of New Jersey.

So what do you think Gov. Christie will do about replacement and a special election?? From what I read, he can choose this Nov or Nov 2014 for election to replace his seat. eek

Death of U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg sets up
Political Choices for Christie

"If Christie refused to call a special election this year,
it would appease state and national Republicans who
would like an additional vote in the Senate for as long
as possible", Murray said.

Re: RIP Frank Lautenberg - 06/04/13 05:48 PM

I heard he decided to have the Special Election this year. Dick Armey was furious !
One reason I respect Christie is he is at least civil and logical... don't agree with his philosophy but he's not cruel & ruthless like most of the GOP Leadership. Also he tells it like he sees it. no bologna !

Christie I think will choose someone in November sometime. I doubt if C. Booker will run or not.

It's hard to believe how hard Sen Lautenberg had
to Fight to have the 2nd Highest Water Falls on the
East Coast declared as a "National Park" owing to
the part it's played in Industrialization of America
ever since the Revolutionary War.
