I have a new rule for the tax code. You shouldn't be able to deduct any more than twice my total taxable income. That sounds fair to me.

-- Cee Bee Double-U

Re: Wouldn't mind redistributing this - 10/17/08 08:37 PM

No kidding there is something wrong with her at 26%. I'm at 28% also. I increased my deductions a bit for next year but don't think I got it down to 26%. Something is seriously wrong if Global is mad that the tax increase for the people making over 250K is socialism. I will admit my taxes are going to go up under Obama. And they should. We have a national debt that will drag this ship of state under water if we do not raise taxes.

I don't mind paying taxes. I do mind when the taxes are not proportional to income. The idea of a flat tax seems to me completely ridiculous. Thought I'd throw that out there and see if there're any fish in the pond.

[color:red] [color:orange] [color:yellow] [color:green] [color:blue] [color:purple]

Re: Wouldn't mind redistributing this - 10/17/08 09:32 PM

What drives me nuts is the flat tax fanatics who are like Joe the Plumber. The flat tax would absolutely screw them. If we got rid of the progressive tax the 40Kers would see their taxes go up big time. But flat taxers always also throw in the cut government and all services and we will all live happily ever after.

Which is nuts. The economy is in a tailspin right now because the economic engine has flamed out. It is not going to start back up anytime soon. First we have to wait for the housing debacle to stop free falling and we finally get the dead cat bounce. But I doubt the 401Ks will start right back up their climb after that until we find a new economic engine. We don't have one in our back poscket.

So how do we get one? By using taxes to invest in education and infrastructure. Biotechnology, nanotechnology, microsphere technology which can be used in batteries, solar, pollution clean up, a myriad of tasks which any one of them would be a huge chunk of future economy to get the engine going again.

I know we are going to get it started up again but a flat tax which is basically a stick your head in the sand no one needs to help me mentality will really slow the restart.

What would really be a shame is if all these technologies which are being discovered at MIT, Caltech, Harvard etc. are all snapped up by other countries. We cannot let that happen. Watching Stem Cell research go off shore was stupid enough.

Cindy McCain is, not unlike Kerry's wife, an heiress of sorts. Her father built one of the largest beer distributorships in the country. He was the successful one. I'm not sure how much Cindy contributed to that success, but she's reaping the benefits just the same.

Look, we'd all like to be so prosperous in our lifetimes that we can set our kids up for life. But their still needs to be some balance. When she pay's 2% less in taxes than I and other kindred schleppers do, and makes 100-fold what I make (probably just off interest and dividends), something's out of whack.

Re: Wouldn't mind redistributing this - 10/18/08 09:47 AM

The big difference between Cindy McCain and Theresa Heinz Kerry is that Mrs. Kerry had an accent, and opinions about stuff going on in the world that she was not afraid to share. That made her all uppity and foreign and the "mainstream media" obliged by endlessly asking, "is she a detriment to the Kerry campaign?"

Cindy McCain is the perfect picture of a Republican first lady to be. She is above all demure and does not speak out about anything that does not involve the domestic sphere of the home. She is about as much of a freewheeling feminist as Republicans can handle.

-- Cee Bee Double-U

Correction, my effective tax rate last year was 24.09%. Still, Cindy should be more than 2 points above me.
