I posted the Rude Pundit's take on the photo as a point of comparison to Bryan's "HAHAHAHAHA Delay should be giving the finger" post. Notice a big to denote the post. The whole thing is pretty ridiculous, and in that I find humor, not 'glee'. I think the Pundit and Bryan have the same point of view that Delay's contrived smiling mugshot is a big FU to his accusers.

Personally, I don't think I've expressed any "hatred" as you so lovingly like to accuse all of us of. Re: DeLay's mug shot.....HAHAHAHAHA - 10/23/05 05:19 AM

I tried to think of all the policies of George W Bush that I hate. It's a long list. Anti environment, ignoring global warming, ignoring the world, (Kyoto, The Hague, installing Wolfowitz in the world bank), making the US a debtor nation by slashing taxes but not spending except in areas I care about (environment, basic research, stem cell research), his slashing of services which help the poor, his hiring of cronies and people who gave money to his election. I could go on and on for pages. (I didn't even get to the Iraqi invasion.)

Does hating most of the policies which George W Bush has put in place make me hate the man? What a stupid question! I really don't know the man, I only see him on TV occasionally, but I sure hate most of his policies. Does that mean if I was invited to the White House would I burn the invitation? No way!. I am sure I would have a good time. I might even take the opportunity to ask him why he has done some of the things he has done. But it doesn't mean I hate him.

Your retort to someone disliking Bush's policies is usually a two fold argument. One, that you marginalize the argument because it is nothing more than "Bush bashing hatred." You usually use, "spew hatred" and "vitriol" type words to describe this. The second thing you do is state how Clinton did the same stuff as you did here stating that Clinton used the Lincoln bedroom to raise funds. But both tactics are an obfuscating facade to belittle and derail any valid debate.

1) Who cares if someone hates Bush. If every time someone "hates" Bush they have to explain the one thousand reasons then you are asking the impossible. Why not accept the fact that "I hate Bush" can be shorthand for a several page list of all policies which are hated?

2) Clinton did do some of the same stuff. Great, but it is still wrong. Debating who was or is more wrong is such a waste of time if that is all you can do when someone points out what is wrong today. Today is what counts. Let's fix what is wrong today. What Clinton did in the Lincoln bedroom is not the yardstick you want to use to excuse behavior in the White House today.

So instead of playing the broken record of, "you're just a bunch of :Bush haters" and "well Clinton did it too" why don't you try arguing why you think GW Bush is such a great President. (If you still feel this way.)

ps. Reading what a poster has written in the past here and at other web sites and using that to explain your weird replies is just weird. It would be better if you just stuck to the facts in the one thread. Trying to figure out what you are talking about is hard enough when I do follow your connections but I pity the poor person who is reading this stuff and has no idea who or what you are talking about. The short version of this is, "Why hold grudges?" or "Today is a new day." or "Forgive and forget" or "Turn the other cheek."

(__*__)

Re: DeLay's mug shot.....HAHAHAHAHA - 10/23/05 06:48 AM

There's no denying that there are some here that actually do hate Bush. And even if that hate is politically motivated, the way it's expressed surely indicates that the feelings are also very personal. Then there are the various Ape=Bush gags. Kinda juvenile, IMHO.

Fact is though, there's a big problem in the WH. I can't say the problem is getting bigger, but the awareness of how big it's been for quite some time is now getting bigger. It is scary, Matt. The people running the country appear not to give 2 craps about said country. At least not in a way that benefits the people.

While I admire your loyalty, and agree with your expectations of respect for the office if not for the man, I find it harder and harder to hold any confidence for where we're going under this Admin. And while I still don't subscribe to the "Pure Evil" POV, I find less to be pleased with, and more to be concerned about. I see a continued pattern of disregard for the bigger picture, and a willingness to just plow ahead with bad decisions, cover-ups, and egocentric single-mindedness.

Clinton lied about a blow job (and other stuff, too). Bush, and his associates, have lied about bigger issues. But IMHO, lying is lying. Period. What I find most disheartening is that this President seems to operate under the assumption that if his predecessor beat the rap, so can he. Instead of rising above reproach, he's embraced it.

Yeah. I'm a little afraid. And a lot less optimistic than I was 6-8 months ago.

Carlos...

Many think I am a Bush hater because I post so much against his POLICIES.. I have said over and over I do NOT hate Bush, the man.
And I don't post monkey photos.

But I DO hate his policies...almost ALL of them. "Bush hater"is a GOP name-calling cop-out used by simpletons who don't want to debate the details of the issues.

So to disprove your diatribe:

In reply to:

"they can't actually explain why they hate the man"

again it IS the Policies not the man I despise.

(1) Tax cuts- blew a putative $5.7 trillion surplus to pay back his rich contributors... used the excuse to stimulate the economy when in fact it would have done MORE if they'd give the bulk to the working class who'd spent every cent. And if one cut wasn't enough, they gave 2 more while at the same time they were preparing for war with Iraq, thus totally ignoring the deficits they'd create.

(2) Education- No Child- underfunded and puts strains on state and local systems for goals and requirements made by the Federal Govt. This policy was 100% OPPOSITE to the GOP philosophy in the 1980's where Reagan complained Washington was the problem and should stay out of the state's business.

(3) Environment- rape, pilage, drill, and plunder. All their policies have nice names "Clear skies", "Safe Forests", ets but the poilicy is horribly the opposite... cuts restrictions on Hg, CO2, and other emissions. Provides open range for timber companies to harvest even more at taxpayer expense. They have ignored and sometimes totally reversed scientific findings by EPA, FDA, CDC, and other supposedly independent govt science labs. Totally UNethical and immoral !!

(4) Iraq- totally FUBAR. LIED to get us there and now we're stuck- after the invasion they fscked up the whole operation. Many of us (like me) said for months all their evidence was crap and logocally refuted it - we told the skeptics, few if any WMDs would be found and we were right !
Now more evidence than ever shows they lied and rigged the presentation of the evidence about the whole dam thing. All a ploy to get Iraq's oil and build a power base in teh Middle east to secure and uninterupted supply of oil from all the region.

(5) Foreign Policy- what hypocrits... in 2002-3 Bush arrogantly stumped the globe dissing former allies that would not jump on his war bandwagon. He alienated many of our former friends and the U.N. Then he's proven wrong on the WMDs and later tries to get more allies to help us with the Iraq occupation incl the U.N. Good points, I could probably write several pages about all the policies of his that I hate as well. You mention the environment, look at all the crap he did in just his first 100 days in office.

Personally though, I have no qualms against saying I "hate" George W. Hating/disliking, or even liking/loving the individual is less actionable on a broad scale. Dealing with the deeds gives you a viable backboard to play off of.

I suppose I could find lots of reasons to "hate" Bush personally.
In reply to:

There's no denying that there are some here that actually do hate Bush.

Exactly. And those are more who my comments are directed toward. It's the endless, sarcastic sniping at Bush (from many of these same people) that has been ongoing since day one. But just like I did for Clinton, I'm trying to form opinions based on the facts. And don't take that as my saying that your opinions aren't based on the facts as you see them. They most certainly are. As for me, I'm try to weed between the hyperbole / opinion in the press and the absolute hysteria raging on the left.

I don't know if there has been any lying or not. None of us has heard what Fitzgerald has heard regarding the Plame case. Sure, there has been an awful lot of speculation, but we don't know the facts.

Maybe your conclusions are true about Bush. Maybe they're not. I hope not. For the time being, I'm giving the President the benefit of the doubt, but keeping an eye open to what you've said here. "For the time being, I'm giving the President the benefit of the doubt,"

That is really all there is to do, regardless of the opinions on either side. Barring any unlikely eventualities, we have 3 more years of this man and his administration. He hasn't even started his last two year lame duck phase. My major concern of late is, with all the uncertainty in the air (most of it caused directly or indirectly by the Bush admin. of course) can it continue to effectively rule this country?
