I find Handbrake and MPEG Streamclip are more than ample.

For Your DVDs you can use DVDXDV and you will nead a G4 Or G5 (or intel) to convert the Video.

If you use Mac, then Handbrake is a good choice. The above is suitable for PC users.

When going to another disc, MacTheRipper is sufficient. When going to another format, Handbrake does the job well too
