Ipod front plastics - 03/22/08 08:42 PM

I have a 5th generation video Ipod with a front panel covered in scratches. I could order a replacement from ifixit.com for about $20 but I want to create a unique look. I have taken my ipod apart a couple times now and know that there is a clear layer over the black base piece that is attached to the metal frame. Can I remove this clear layer at all? I heard from someone that it was glued on there and I was wondering if a heat gun could loosen the glue? Once removed I would get another acrylic sheet and glue it over the black part, after some paint. Also, can the back of the ipod be anodized or just electroplated?

unfortunately there is no way (that i have seen or heard of) to separate the clear from the black. I believe it's a two part injection molding. Basically the black is molded into the clear acrylic. With the regards to the back cover i'm not sure.
