iMac G5 LCD repair - 04/16/15 07:02 PM

Haven't been in the Mac world in a great while.

Yesterday I bought a iMac G5 for ten bucks at a thrift store. the LCD panel is busted ad I thought I would tackle the repair. Instead of buying a direct drop in replacement I decided to go the route of the Hackintosh guys but reverse. Toss in a TMDS compatible LCD panel and wire up a DVI connector to the old LCD panel's cable. This way I can connect any 17.1 inch DVI compatible monitor in the system. Or if I really wanted to I could build a custom case for the system. I do have a 32inch LCD TV, just use a DVI/HDMI adapter and get some acrylic sheets.... Nah, after all it's a G5 CPU and I would only run Linux on it.

Good to see you again.
Good luck with the mod.

Yea since the MacMod merge and the hackintosh scene it's been kinda slow on the modding front.

Well, sad to say the motherboard is also dead. looks like a power regulator or transistor was broken off when I took it apart. So I stripped it down and planning to use the case for a project and currently rewiring the Bluetooth module to use a standard USB port.
