Cooling a ATI Rage 128 Graphiccard - 01/17/06 11:02 AM

Hello, I a bit worried about the heat issue on graphic-card in my B/W G3. It's a stock ATI Rage128 PCI without a heatsink or fan. So I wonder which type of heatsink that works with my ATI card.

It never had one shipped with it as far as I'm aware. But this is MacMod afterall. Any heat sink you can attach should do fine. Obviously the heatsink from a dual proc G4 would be overkill (and wouldn't fit anyway). Why not add a fan while you're at it?

Hes right, any small heatsink will work. Its really not necessary unless you overclock it. You should
oc it though, that card is old and very slow. Throw a used G3 zif heatsink on it with some artic silver
epoxy and some ram sink and oc it to hog heaven, or at least faster than it is.

You can by a GPU cooler from tigerdirect or newegg real cheap. My Rrage 128 that came with my B&W had a heatsink.

The pros had heatsinks. A G3 heatsink is probably around 2-3 bucks on ebay.

Something to note is that the smaller heatsinks do come with a permanant adhesive for the heatsink. If you choose to follow this route, remember you will not be able to correct it later. Then again, it shouldn't hurt anything at all if you add a heatsink to a card that did not come with one.

True Whitlock, and those vid cards are so cheap now people are practically giving them away. My advice is to co the crap out of it and then buy a better card. Ati 7000 are running 20 bucks and are much better anyway. If you are using the G3 as a server, just leave it.

aditional cooling is allways a good thing, adds stability and life to the gpu:)

First of all, thansk for all support!
I've been looking for a Heatsink that should fit fine. The Zalman ZM-NB32K should fit, don't you think?
I just saw that the Graphic-Card had two screwholes, so the Zalman should fit right.

Edit: Oops forgot the pics...

It should fit. Only a small hand full of cards use a bigger spread but i should fit.
