I love the red powermac but it would look just a tad sicker if the apple was either black or white. Awesome job.

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/02/07 06:15 PM

Could of gotten away with 2meter wire loom on some of that. Looks nice though.

Welcome to macmod btw.

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/02/07 07:23 PM

Wowsers!  That is a ton of wiring and loom in there.  I would try and clean that up a bit to get some better airflow.  Why the second power supply?

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/02/07 08:02 PM

what are the specs?
Posted by: WOOKIE1212

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/03/07 04:02 AM

hy..
yeah,,..thats right..much cables..for all the lighting-stuff...
ehrm,..i will put around zip-ties in black..but not too much, because when the cables are to stiff the case couldnt close..but it should works...

@maestro: there isnt any second powerSupply...

Specs:

Dual 1.2Ghz downclocked to 1GHz(cause of overheating)
1GB RAM
120GB HD
no DVD-Reader i dont need it..but i have got tons of it
stock grahpic-card {i ordered a 9800pro then a 9600pro but i had to wait about 5months and it wasnt there so money-back)

today i will order a DELTA FFB 0812 EHE...the real turbine..about 90CFM...60db LOUD...but i need it..cause my computers cpu's are overheating when they work for 2hours 100%/100& on 1Ghz...under normal conditions it works fine...and i love my mac(s)..

you need one of these SilenX fans: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/4274/f...l?tl=g36c15s550
90CFM @ only 18 db.  trust me..  the specs are accurate.  Silenx are the greatest fans made by far.  I use the same one in my dual 867 MDD and my temps are around 45-50c even under heavy use for hours.  if your system is overheating then its getting up around 70-80c.  most G4's will auto shutdown around 75c.

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/03/07 05:59 AM

I would recommend Sharkoon fans as SilenX are quiet but very low air flow.  Sharkoons have the highest flow per db reading.  Ah, what I though was a second psu must be a fan plate with a thermal take fan.

Have you tried resetting the cpu heatsink with arctic silver?  I would try that first.  I cut a hole in the side of my QS where the large fan is (I have several side panels) and that increased the cool air intake.  You could also replace your cpu heatsink fans.  I would try this stuff before putting a loud fan in the case.  Also, tidy up those cables!

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/03/07 06:54 AM

I wouldn't call 90 cfm low..  most 120mm blow an average of about 50-60 cfm @ around 25-30 db.  I consider anything above 22-24db loud and I don't think SilenX makes a fan above 20db.  their fan blade design can push a lot more air per rotation because of how its slightly scooped.

Ehrm..there are some thermalpads on the bottom of the heatsink...Do you think its good to put some Arctic Silver thermalPaste under the bottom...for first i havent got some additionals thermalPads how they write in the manual.
2. i dont know if ArctivSilver Paste is better than the thermalPads...

and for last. yes i will cut with my new dremel a hole in the plasticPanel..with a fanGuard..but for first i think i should buy a second SidePanel..(mine are also a little scratchy)

...what do you think i should do?

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/03/07 10:40 AM

Get rid of the thermal pads, those are no good, or you could say, just good enough.  Arctic silver 5 is much better as long as you apply it correctly.  Google the procedure.  Scrap the thermal pad off with some sort of plastic scraper so you dont scratch the heatsink.  You can polish the bottom of the heatsink too.  Later today, I will try and remember to post a picture in this thread of the hole on my wifes QS so you can get an idea of how it could look.

Start with the pad removal and AS 5 first.  Get a better fan or cut the case side next...pending on how much dough you want to spend.

See how that affects everything and go from there...By the way, simple things like room temp, keeping the surrounding area clear, cleaning dust out also help too, and they are FREE!

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/03/07 11:12 AM

hy..thanx a lot..
yes the hole in the side would be very good and also would look very COOL..
for second..yes it could be the pads CAUSE at the first day the processor runned about 7hours stable @1.2ghz @about 90DEGREES:..thats perhaps the reason why the thermalpads are dried out..
the only thing is HOW TO REMOVE the heatsink..i dont know..i didnt used the manual cause the false was in the box..there are only screws to remove the two fans..but how to remove the heatsink,i dont know..

thanx...please write back fast

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/03/07 02:20 PM

I am looking for pics of the GD cpu on google.....remove the fans and snap a shot of the heatsink.  We will go from there.  By the way, this site has a server that you can store pics on!  You dont need to use pic sharing sites.

Be back in a bit.

hy..

thanx..yes i know this guide.

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/04/07 09:08 AM

Yep, hole was cut with cutting wheel, then sanding drum, then some hand sanding to clean it up.

SilenX 120mms in testing pushed 40cfm@25.2db and 61cfm@30.4db.  Okay numbers, but 30.4db is loud.  The 80-92mm fans that were tested pushed 6-28cfm@22.5 which, well...blows.
Sharkoon 120mms in testing pushed 36.8cfm@below noise floor.  80mm models push 20-26cfm@noise floor or below. (their 80mm has the best flow/least amount of noise (in testing) than any other 80mm on the market. shocked

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/04/07 09:33 AM

hy..thanx..

now for first i will remove the heatsink and smear some AS5 on the two CPU's... then when it works fine it works fine..maybe a better 60mm fan...thats all

the hole will look fine if its finished...i will do it later..
thanx

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/04/07 11:23 AM

hy-..damn...my Dremel300 goes like a rocket..i cutted some steal...with my super cut-off wheels..yes and then later today i cutted acryl-glas..damn i did a very good hole for the beginning..some little mistakes who arent seeable..

i love this little machine...thats what i call a really modder-tool...its not really cheap but its a good price..

@maestrO:

Later.so tomorrow i think i will cut the hole..but i will draw a 120mm hole but i will cut about 0.5cm away the line..cause i want to go safe..later i will sand it a lil more..but when its finished damn...it will looks great...the only thing IS:
my 80mm hole on top is very ugly..for real..cause it was my first but its ugly..so i deciced to correct it with my new DREMEL..so what do you think..do I should install a plate inside and on the sides of the plate for protecting the insides..(i will additionaly cover them with 3layers newspaper, and then the plates for covering)

OR

do i should deassamble the hole machine only for correcting the edges..'

What do you think?

PLEASE ANSWER...thx wink

Thanx

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/05/07 09:44 AM

The safest route is to take everything out.  Then cut the hole, vacuum it out and use tape to pick of the difficult metal dust.  You could tape a cardboard box under the hole to catch the dust too.  Then carefully remove the box and use tape to remove any stray metal particles.  DONT USE A VACCUUM to remove any particles with the parts in it, that causes a ton of static electricity which is bad for pc parts.  To be safe, blow it out with some pc air can.

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/05/07 10:03 AM

hm....yes but my computer is so difficultly build with all cables and that..
but thats also a good method isnt it:

I will put a metal or wood plate inside the computer its long so it also covers the logicBoard..then i will place additional TWO plates on the side..for covering it from the side...and i will all cover with 3layers of newspaper..so its protected isnt it?

here my pics of my brandnew hole with my brandnew DREMEL.

the images are too large so i uploaded it on imgbox..sry:

http://imgbox.de/?img=o47673e244.jpg
http://imgbox.de/?img=v47683h244.jpg

and an attach of my idea:
http://imgbox.de/?img=w41222r244.jpg

I only need a fangrill 120mm for covering..Man that looks SICK....

thanx

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/05/07 10:51 AM

YOU KNOW WHAT:

I ve got the real idea.

i will buy some 1-2mm thin aluminium
then i will dremel a hole about 75mm
and for finishing i will put it on my very ugly hole..so its like a new hole on a second plate who nobody is seeing

what do you think maestro? so i dont have to dismantle or protect my baby

thanx please write back..(i cant wait)

thank you maestro

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/05/07 06:04 PM

Sounds cool.  Modding has a pretty steep learning curve some times.  I myself have killed many Macs. :'(
I say go for it.  Just be sure to blow it out good just in case.  Wouldn't hurt to cover the psu intake and motherboard either.  Just remember to remove the psu cover! smile

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/06/07 02:35 AM

hy..

no i dont do it..i have got now a plate which i dremeled in a hole..(but the hole hasnt exactly a radius of 80mm only aout 74mm for covering the ugly edges) so i dont have to do anything more..

and i dont know if I should use AS5 because then i loose my warranty...(giga-designs never answers and they didnt putted TWO thermalPads in my box)..

i dont know what i should do--...

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/06/07 08:04 AM

Hey, that is a nice looking blow hole.  Good job.  8)Check out this site...www.aqua-mac.com.  This guy is the king of Quicksilver modders.  I bet you can get some great ideas from him.

As far as the thermal pads go;  how much warranty do you have left?  I say go for the AC5!  You can buy replacement thermal pads from http://www.performance-pcs.com or http://www.frozencpu.com, so no worries, if it breaks later you can put some new ones on it for return with no one the wiser.  Besides, seems like the ones youve got now just arent doing the job.

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/06/07 08:17 AM

hy---thanx-...now its running..yesterday it was the temp in the room..so the mac was overheating..now im from switzerland and i bought the last piece in switzerland and also the last piece of the distributor..(http://www.computerworks.ch) now if i can buy these pads agai i would buy AS5....so far..

i also think that those pads arent very good..(AS5 has got much better materials)..

hm..i will see..for first i am so happy about my good hole and my sideHole..and about my Dremel..kewl

THIS GUY IS CRAZY...i also want a graphiccard like he has..damn..(do i have to flash this card if i would buy it?or cut some Pins?}
i saw that he also has a GIGADESIGNS Dual Cpu...
thanx

i dont know why my edit button disappears everytime so i decide to do a new post..

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/06/07 10:51 AM

He does very clean work.  You can  buy graphics cards like that (preflashed) on ebay, from aqua-mac (he working on that), and check out http://www.strangedogs.com.  That website has everything you need to do any card there is.  Check around it and make sure you become a member to view the good stuff, as they can be secretive.  I would say an ATI 9800pro or xt would be great for your set up as more than that can be limited by the rest of your system.  Too bad, I just sold my xt for 115 bucks on ebay.

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/06/07 10:55 AM

hy..hmm

i recently ordered a 9800Pro later a 9600Pro but they ve got hue problems with the RohS so i canceled the order..
now a 6800gt would be THE CHOICE..for me..i think ill take a look..maybe aquamac sold one on ebay..maybe i ll contact him...i will see

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/07/07 04:18 AM

hy..

maestro, i think i ve got the solution..the two highspeedFans..now they are on a little piece of metal..
So, the heatsink has got on each side THREE holes..so together 6..now i screwed my piece of metal in the last holes..i think i also could try out how the processor is working, WHEN i will screw the piece in the other two holes..then the two fans on the metal would be in the MIDDLE not in the back of the heatsink..

i think this could work well..or better.

What do YOU think?

thanks

Re: MY TWO MODS - 05/07/07 09:13 AM

hy.. i think i will wait about 1week..BECAUSE GIGADESIGNS NEEVVERRR writes back..
thats what i call BAD very Bad Support...
now i want that this processor works, because when i will send it back to GigaDesigns i  dont know wether they will send me a new...because i have got a dual 1.2Ghz downclocked by myself on 1Ghz but they dont produce it anymore so they have to send me a DUAL 1.33GHZ with ALUMINIUM-HEATSINK.,.

so i want wait on gigaDesignds reply BEFORE i will do anything with the CPU (thermalGrease etc)

what do you think I should do..they never write back..and i also wrote that...i HOPE THEY WILL NOW write me back,,

Thanx
