2.5GHz penryn 17" MacBook Pro LCD question - 10/01/09 02:49 PM

I'm pretty sure I know the answer but here goes.

I cracked the LCD on my 17" MacBook Pro which featured the low res LED LCD. Is it possible to replace the LCD with the Hi-Res version?

Thanks.

Honestly, I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to. I checked iFixit, and didn't see anything on the initial run of them even selling the 17" screens... though they've changed their site a lot. Although I haven't had the guts to open one of the unibodies myself, your best bet is to break it open and see what kind of plug it has. Also you might get lucky and the tech crew at a mac store might tell you.

Yes, same connectors, HOWEVER, you have to change the encolure Clamshell as well, the mounting points on the LCD are different.

if you swap the assemblies at the hinge , it swaps straight across.
