ibook G4 12" logic board in 14", power problem - 04/03/09 07:45 PM

I recently purchased an ibook g4 12" 1.33 GHz logic board and put it in an ibook G4 14" 1.42 GHz case. All worked fine for about 2 minutes. Now the power adapter breaker trips every time I plug it in, but it still runs fine on battery. I have tried DC boards from both 12" and 14" models. Am I missing something, or are these incompatible? Did I fry something on the board? Please help.

Have you tried a new power supply? I suspect the DC in-board is your problem. If you try another power supply, make sure you use the 12" DC board first, just in case.

I've used a few different supplies and both 12" and 14" DC in boards.

well the 14" uses a 14 volt battery and the 12 uses a 10.4v so I suspect that your problem is there, at the battery and not with the power supply or the dc board. Usually what happens is the 14v battery fries the DC bus and the battery will no longer charge but the laptop runs ok otherwise. Basically the logic boards are not really interchangeable for this reason. You may be able to figure out a way around it though not sure how. But my 2 cents is its the battery not the power board.

I thought about that, but it still runs on a 10.4v battery from a 12". I have no way to charge the 14v battery, so I don't know if it will run on that. It did for a few minutes until the battery died. The issue is that the power supply trips as soon as it is plugged in.
