I assume it is a hard drive with a scsi "skuzzy" connector.  A kind of dated connction but pretty fast transfer rate.

The Quantum Fireball was a 3.5" parallel ATA hard drive shipped by Quantum. It primarily made its way into service for Apple in the tray and slot loading iMac G3's. However, the Fireball drives were problematic and were in some cases literally true to their name. the controller boards had a tendency to burn out and scorch themselves, and in one case that I saw, catch fire.

Yes, when working on one that belonged to my boss, it burst into flames. Ah, those were the good old days.

I have one that still works, came with my B&W. Kinda weird though that my iMac tray load came with a 40GB WD hard drive. The ad said never been upgraded or serviced.
