Anyone heard of an overclock for the tibook 1Ghz - 09/13/06 09:55 AM

I jsut got a beatifully dinged up, fully functioning tibook DVI 1ghz, and I've been thinking about overclocking/modding hardware.  I've got lots of case mod ideas, but I could use some hardware ideas...
my google searches which yealded nothing usefull:
Tibook overclock

thanks

That is an awsome overclock for the Aluminum powerbooks, but I'm pretty sure the architechture is different on the titanium.  I definitly don't have enough knowledge to figure this out on my own, or the $450 for the daystar chip.  :'(

My dream powerbook is a titanium/aluminum covered with carbon fiber.  Ive done this mod on an older model, but those models are perfect because of their flatness. wink

I did this mod a couple of years ago with some success. The additional heat/voltage eventually fried the logic board. I was able to boost it to 1.3GHz for short spans but it ran reliably at 1.13GHz. The voltage mod is particularly hairy.

Check out my old thread for a play-by-play:

Unforutnately, it looks like the images got lost during MacMod's forum-engine transition.

Thanks Boodle
too bad that those images are lost.  Do you remember how much you increased the voltage?  I'm definitly freaked out to try this... I'm going to buy an already fried board and practice my soldering... as well as buying a new iron. How much use did you get out of the machine before it fried?  since I'm rebuilding the case,  I'll have some room to add better cooling (no water!) so I'm hoping that will be the factor that lets me run stable at 1.3.

I have done this mod I think I have the pics somewhere too. Its not as hard as it seems but voltage is def something to watch or it will not run stable. I got it to 1.3 as well I believe I would have to check the thread I made here.

thats why we like to host mods, to prevent images from being lost...

I o/ced my iBook from 600 to 700MHz with iCook and it killed my laptop after a month.

you've all been wrong on the links so far

here's the one you really want: Overclocker Powerbook Titanium DVI

I plan on trying it myself but even better if someone else tries it first...

Re: Anyone heard of an overclock for the tibook 1Ghz - 04/21/07 03:08 PM

Started out at 1Ghz.  Two hours with the soldering iron later...

It didn't work at first, but then I unsoldered all the work I did and did it over again - success!
