Some people have asked for benchmarks on the Pismo. Here is the score on xBench using version 1.2 on a Pismo with FastMac G4 550, 256mb memory (i know), stock hard drive (going to be replaced with a Toshiba 60gb 5400 16mb) and FastMac DL superdrive, using osx.4.3.

100 points is for standard for comparison using dual 2.0 G5

total 18.21
cpu 25.87
memory 14.2
graphics 21.68
disk 10.01

The harddrive upgrade and another 256 will help it out alot. This is perfect for watching dvds, surfing, word processing and doing light photo work.

We're working on a comprehensive series on the Pismo that should be released in the weeks ahead. This will include extensive reviews and product benchmarks. Stay tuned!

As a reference, my stock Pismo 400 G3 with the same ram and hard drive scores a 9.6 on XBench!

Looks like the G4 gives quite a boost. I am testing the new superdrive now, but the article will be posted on another site. I will put up a link.

I just added a WD hard drive which is 40gb at 5400. It boosted the score to 20.21 for a total score. So, I have fully upgraded this book to its max, I am really satisfied. I love using it....as much as any more powerful Mac I have...well except for the "power" apps.

The 5400 rpm drive boosted my score from 9.6 to 11.9, I wonder what a 7200 rpm drive would do....

A 7200 rpm drive would be faster, but not enough to justify the battery loss and cost. Until we see some more efficiency, I would stick with 5400 if you are unplugged most of the time. I am guessing that the longitude design will give the boost in efficiency we all want and I will even make the slower drives faster.

The new hybrid drives supposedly add an hour to your battery life.
Just benched my Lombard with new Daystar 433MHz G4:

CPU 17.74
Memory 8.23
Quartz 12.69
OpenGL 8.81
Disk 23.48

Overall 10.98

Most recent score with the old 333MHz g3 (under 10.4.3 instead of 10.4.6):

CPU 7.43
Memory 5.18
Quartz 10.24
OpenGL 5.89
Disk 23.44

Overall 7.46

Not a bad upgrade. And you wouldn't believe what I paid for it.
