Pismo won\'t recognise 512Mb Ram - 01/29/06 12:26 AM
I've got a Pismo with a 500Mhz G4 upgraded processor. From what I can see on the panel it was originally a 400Mhz G3. I am trying to max the RAM by putting in two 512Mb SODIMMs. When I check the system profiler it won't recognise the entire 512Mb in the upper slot. It reads it as only 256Mb. The bottom chip reads as 512Mb just fine. Anyone know what's up with that? Am I actually getting 1Gb performance even though the system profiler says 768Mb? Or am I only getting 768 performance because of a read problem? Any help/solution greatly appreciated.

You're getting 768mb. Have you tried swapping the RAM around? You could just have a bad stick of RAM.

Have you compared the two sticks of RAM? My bet is they have different numbers of physical RAM chips on them. I've seen it happen on Lombards, though I thought it wasn't an issue for Pismos.
It may be that you have a chip which is the wrong configuration for the Pismo.

I think War is right, Count the little black ram moduals on each chip, if the top one (the one reading only 256) has twice as many as the one that reads correctly thats your problem.
