Speck case mod - 03/01/08 10:31 AM

I am a new mac user and thus I don't have much experience in mac modding. I am looking into buying a macbook and just wanted to know about some case mods that would look good. I know that you can dye the plastic case but I want to keep the actual notebook in its original condition. Could I buy the speck clear case and dye it a color? I know they have some colors but if you can dye the clear case you have an infinite range of colors. Is this possible?

A fair question. I don't see why not. I guess you'll have to try it to be sure though. Follow the tips for dying iBooks and MacBooks on the forums here and you shouldn't go far wrong.

You'll probably need to dye the speck case at a lower temperature and for less time, otherwise, you risk warping it. I've also found that plastics other than the polycarbonate used in the MacBooks and iBooks tend to go much darker much more quickly.

Awesome, I would much rather mess up a $50 case than the actual body.

quinlan,

Take some nice pics and document the mod process. I would like to put up a mod guide on that as well!
