Cosmos - 03/09/14 02:20 PM

NatGeo has been running a weekend marathon of the entire original Sagan series as a prelude to tonight's series revival premier with Neil DeGrasse Tyson. I haven't been able to see every single episode, but the half dozen or so I've watched have reminded me what a profound visionary and wonderful story teller Carl Sagan was.

Will DVR tonight's installment because, you know… Walking Dead. crazy

Uncle Carl? smile

Yeah...
he made science fascinating
and brought it to the masses.
I purchased the entire series on DVD
from PBS along with the Companion Book.

Dr Sagan had a way of covering the same information
on three different levels in order to reach every
age group, and in the process made certain it "sunk in".

Also have a many of Ken Burns' Documentaries & Books
and many of the David Attenborough's "LIFE" series of series
along with their w/Companion Books as well.

Dint know about the NEW "Cosmos" Series...
Thanx for the Heads-Up!

I caught the new version last night. It was okay but the animation they used to discuss the historical aspects seemed like it could have been much better. It reminded me of an old Saturday morning cartoon. Odd since Seth MacFarlane was the Executive Producer.

Was there a Fox News rebuttal immediately after the broadcast? laugh

That fish/croc in the beginning looked real enough as it was crawling out the water near Neil's feet! I did not care for the cartoons either. Rather amateurish.

I just watched. Very uneven, and as much as I admire and respect Tyson, the whole resonation fell short of my expectations. I didn't get the cartoon segments, either. They were so off-tone as to feel disruptive. Disappointing. frown

what they were missing was Uncle Carl's
melodic sing-song voice that captured me
from the first sentence in the Original.

I'm glad I gave it another chance...

First off, I deleted the FOX Channel recording
(as soon as I found out that "There'd be ADDITIONAL
Footage when aired on the National Geographic Channel)

FOX claimed that what got left out was accidental
but how could it be if it were announced in advance? smirk

What had "accidentally" been axed covered Evolution.
oops laugh

ANYWHO
I re-recorded it on Monday ...and every Monday since.

I'm glad I did.. even though much of it had been covered
by Carl Sagan I suppose by now I didn't mind a refresher.
especially since it was tied into new information
gathered since then.

All in all, I've been enjoying it. (Even with the funky animated sequences. grin )
