Never was much of a Gilligan fan. I preferred Bob Denver as Maynard G. Krebs in Dobie Gillis. But I liked the characters in Gilligan.

You know, I've never thought about what the G stood for! Let me see if I can find out.

OK, don't ask me how or why, but apparently the G stands for Walter. The only thing I can think is that since there's no "W" in Latin (and Romance languages like Spanish, where the "w" is an invasive species), the sound of "W" is transcribed as "Gu." That is all.

Quote:
Maynard's middle name is Walter. Named for his aunt, the "G" is silent, he would explain.

The 'G' in Maynard G. Krebs stands for Walter. It was mean as a joke when Maynard G. Krebs was created.
