Who remembers this forum format?

If you search for Doc on that page that's me.

Click on the General forum in that link, some current and former memberies.

I was on a different forum early on--MNN. There was a big break up of that forum round about 2000, I believe, and I migrated to Stan's forum first, then dipped the old toe at MC after that. So I missed that early format.

Yep. Just checked. I joined the original MacMinute in May of 2001. It's hard to believe that it was that year of all years.

And just checked over at MNN, and I registered there in March of 2000.

I know I was a lurker for years, but I don't remember that format!
I think I officially joined in 2002…

Edit: MacMinute always confused me back then. It had all the same members, posting the same stuff in both forums.
You know, kinda like AppleCentral and Facebook! whistle wink

MNN is Mac News Network. It still runs, and has a bunch of regular users. But it got to be one very very nasty place, and from what I can tell it still is.

I started out as the #1 Poster @ MacWorld.com
as far as I know my Thread within The MacGabbery*
Forum is still the longest in MacWorld history.

I'd joined MacCentral very very very briefly when
Wotz-his-name Snell changed the MW Format, and
he said, "anyone that doesn't like it can leave!.
there's a perfectly nice forum, our Sister Forum,
called, 'MacCentral.com' go over there & play."

To his surprise, it began a mass migration, not
because we ever lost our affection for the
'Mother-Ship' but rather we were tired of Jason.

MacCentral was my first stop, I made perhaps 2
posts under the user name "James Portzeebee",
din't like the format, and wandered off to seek
my fortune in a few more MacForms, but wound
up back in MacWorld ...for a while.

The World Trade Incident was the straw that broke
the camel's back....... from the amount of forum
hopping I witnessed in those next few months,
it seemed to have kicked the stool out from
under lots of folks. frown

* "MacGabbery"
was the 2nd MW Social Forums, "GeneralGabbery"
GenGab was like this Lounge, MacGab was MacChat.

in anycase, all the social forums were deleted
a couple months after me & almost 20 of us
left for the final time...
...crumbs frown where has the last 12 years gone?

Wait a minute.

Wasn't MacCentral the forum Jim Dalrymple moderated? I joined that in '00, and that seems to be the format it was in.

Hasn't this forum always been AppleCentral? Can't remember. Joined here in '02.

O.K., I read someone's post above, and this was MacMinute when I joined. Good memory.

I liked the format with all the posts in one spot.

J.H.K.

Somebody Say Sumpthin'! cry

H'ain't seen a forum fall so silent since
I outted myself as a woman in 1999!

Same type unexpected innocent question...
...the kid ("dogcow") asked that we do the
hither-to unthinkable & reveal our "REAL NAMES"
All I said was "Jac.queline" & posting from 200+
regulars screeched to a halt for nearly 18 hours!

"Gee! Wazz it sumpthin' I sed?" smirk

I hadn't lied, or gone out of my way to say
one way or t'other... I just dint say at all,
...until someone finally asked point-blank.

I was disappointed with the format change. To me it was easier to see responded to who and in what order.

But got used to this format as well.

Yeah, backin the good ole days . With OS 9 and floppy discs and ZIP disks

Oh yeah , good ole days whistle

I don't remember just when I stumbled into MacCentral, but it felt like home and I stayed. I was working a second shift, getting home around 2 or 3 AM and wide awake. I remember having to go to bed as the sun was rising if I was to get enough sleep before going back to work. I hated that shift, but enjoyed the fun and useful info, especially when Apple/Mac support was pretty rare. It was well before 9/11/01. That I do remember. 1998? 1999? 2000? Sometime in that time frame.

I was a member of MC twice.
Once right after the first time
I left MacWorld, and again a few years
later, after having been a member of MacMinute
for a while, then returned to MM during the Boxing
Day Tsunami incident, having stumbled upon the ruckus
while dropping by intending to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
