You should have gotten a monocle. A face lift would help too.

Re: New Glasses - 06/14/13 07:51 PM

OH you are too damm FUNNY !! laugh laugh

Reminds me of a friend I had in HS who got an ad for "X-ray glasses" out of the back of one of those cheapie Marvel or Dell comic books. I think they cost $5-6 !! .... and the ad had a drawing of a guy looking through girl's dresses etc. So he orders them ! We told him it was a scam (rip off then); there's NO way they could sell x-ray glasses (safety problem) and esp for $5 !! But he wouldn't listen !

So about a week later they come in the mail (no UPS or Fed Ex then). They are a set of frames with cardboard in place of the glass. The middle of the cardboard "lenses" has a small hole in each and wedged between the layers of cardboard are some fine feathers! YES feathers ! So when you look through them the feathers kind of give you double vision ! So you look at your arm and you see your arm and a slightly smaller arm inside that one (X-ray !) laugh We razzed him for months over those !! What a maroon !!! wink

Re: New Glasses - 06/14/13 08:00 PM

Nana

Glasses and lenses are the biggest rip off !! My wife worked for an optometrist in CA and they'd buy frames for <$5 a pair and sell for $100-200 !! Even the high $300+ frames cost them < $20 !! WHat a SCAM ! Buy a set on line for $15-20 !! And all that BS with coatings and crap... it's like running Rain-X over your car windshield. Takes <1 minute, 2-3 in cost, and they charge you an extra $20-25 !! What a load of sh ... caca!! grin

Get your Rx and buy on line. My son did and he got 2 pair for about $20 each. Works fine for him ! A regular eye service would have cost him 5-6 X that ! . . (and he got coatings etc too, but they charge an extra $1 for them, not $20 !)

Re: New Glasses - 06/14/13 08:04 PM

Nana, the price of spectacles are ridiculous.
We spend 15 minutes at the optometrist (Does this look better, or this?), and have to decide on a prescription that will work, or not.
The bifocals I have are a joke.
Everyone thinks I'm pointing my nose at them, but I'm only tying to focus! smile

What a co-inky-dink!

I recently found out that fried bananas
were actually Plantains.. the most available
of which was named after the bloke who'd first
introduced them into England ...a man
named Mr. Johnson... whistle

My initial reaction was:
"Thank you for the explanation, since I might
have naturally thought the name was derived
from their approximate size and shape."

only to be corrected;
"I think it's the other way around--the Johnson
got its name from the platano Johnson.

blush oh!

If you buy on line, how does one adjust the placement of the tri-focal lens or the prism I need because of my stigmatism

Re: New Glasses - 06/15/13 08:41 PM

On-Line is not for everyone, but if you don't have special needs, it saves lots of $$$.
I think you're stuck with the optometrist, but I'd check with some on line firms first. Is that data in your Rx ?? I ask because I think my son just sent them the written Rx and they did the rest. In many states, it's the Law; they have to give you a copy of the Rx (so they can't hold you captive).

Re: New Glasses - 06/16/13 06:38 AM

Tried to get the Rx from my eye dr...said no unless it was just for personal use...what???? meaning you can have a copy but it can not be filled...lotta good that will do if I break a pair on an out of state trip and need them filled right then and there

Re: New Glasses - 06/16/13 01:41 PM

That's BS, go to a different one next time. Thats' exactly why GA made it a Law they HAVE to give you the Rx. mad
