Bot Phone Calls - 02/23/13 08:22 AM

When I moved to my new place I got a new phone number....a well used phone number...I get all manner of Bot Phone Calls...."This is a Personal call for(name).... if you are not (name)....press 2 if you are....press 1....I am not what ever the name is and after a number of calls I press 1 to let a real person know I am not who they think I am....take me off your calling list..no problem they say...I still get calls...press number 1 again...I am not who you think I am....pause...yes you are...you owe us XX dollars pay up now...round and round ..

I am on the no call list....does not matter we have the right to call list or not....more bot phone calls...if I did not need the phone line for DSL I would shut the dang thing off

Can't you have the dsl without the phone number? I forget how that works.

Those are from bill collectors. The do not call list will not help. Bill collectors have a right to call since it's not a solicitation. Looks like you got the phone number from someone that was seriously in debt. You might want to see if you can get your phone number changed. Chances are it won't get any better, you don't know how long the list of their debtors is.

Okay I missed the part where he said he really didn't need the phone. Yes you need a phone number for DSL since it is a phone line and they have to be able to identify who the phone line belongs to, but all you have to do is just unplug the phone, or turn off the ringer.

All one needs is to have the phone line running to the DSL modem. You don't have to branch it off to a phone also.

No, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night. wink

Actually, finally coming out of a fog after being sick all week. I finished the last half of a crossword puzzle today in about 5 minutes or so that had me stumped for 2 days.

Jim knows. His night job is enforcer for Columbus' most notorious loan shark! I heard he bit the head off a debtor's baby because she was a day late on a payday loan. Sure, mild-mannered professional geek and gentle mod by day. By night, they know him as the Steel-Toed ReBoot! eek laugh
