Windows Media Player? - 03/02/07 11:19 AM

How do I listen to a stream from a site that uses Windows Media Player? I can't seem to find a download for the player.

Old farts, the hidden caulk of civilization. Jim Atkinson
Try this drjohn. M$ doesn't make WMP for Macs any more.

Ha Ha . . . beat you to it.

By the way, drjohn, you can get the older WMP here if you want it.

Best thing I can think of is to get the Flip4Mac utility which will play Windows Media streams through QuickTime. I think you can still get the free version [color:TEAL]HERE, but you may want to research whether the freebie is compatible with Intel Macs. Otherwise, you could get the $29.95 version of [color:TEAL]WMV Player Pro. However, you might have to sweet talk the CFO again about this.

Info at the M*cr*s*ft site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx

The standard Windows Media Player can be found here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/mac/mp9/default.aspx

The info at Versiontracker says that it's for PPC Macs, but maybe that's just "compatible" rather than universal.

Cool thing about the Flip4Mac utility (I'm running the Freebie) is that I've been able to save TONS of WMV streamed media as QT files, stuff I would have never been able to save previously using just the MS player.

Thanks, all. Flip 4 Mac is working now. I didn't know if WMP had to be installed also. I guess not.

Old farts, the hidden caulk of civilization. Jim Atkinson
Yessir . . . it's a very useful utility--so much so that I'm actually tempted to pay for it. I haven't succumbed to temptation, though.

Bought it. It's such a handy thing I thought the developers should get a pat on the back.

I just have the free player...do you think it was worth the upgrade?

_______
Re: Windows Media Player? - 03/06/07 05:36 PM

Probably not worth it. But it was the right thing to do.
