You need to explore the selection from Victory Brewing, right down the road in Downingtown.

5.2% alcohol? BAH! Most Canuckistani beers are at least that right outta the box! Stop drinking that American swill and buy a good import.

- alec

Used to use the Golden Monkey logo as my avatar.

It's okay, but gets gross after half a dozen bottles. I'm not a big fan of spicy beers, teas, wines, etc... It's like drinking pot pourri.

Victory.... You are so right!

I love everything they make-- from the Prima Pils to the Golden Monkey. But they've hit on something very, very special with Hop Devil. I consider myself a malt-head for the most part, but Hop Devil is delicious.

I love a good Black and Tan! I'll look for that brand next time. My hometown just passed a law where we can finally have beer and wine sales here in our suburb (Garland)...we used to have to drive to Dallas or Plano. The Baptists fought hard to keep it out but those that supported it finally won! It has been a raging political battle for 20 years.

I put back a couple of these this weekend to celebrate...my favorite beer brewed in the 118 year old German settlement of Shiner, Texas: Shiner Bock

Re: My favorite beer - 05/09/05 02:35 PM

Alcohol laws are strange.

Here in MD you buy beer and liquor at the liquor store all in one spot. Liquor stores can't be open on Sunday, but a bar can sell packaged goods on Sunday. Makes no sense.

Then in PA where I work I can't buy liquor and beer in the same store. Also makes no sense. In VA you can buy beer in the supermarket but not liquor.

Actually I like that liquor stores here in MD have to sell the stuff and not supermarkets. That's just one more mom & pop business Wal-Mart would do in.

Re: My favorite beer - 05/09/05 02:53 PM

And here I thought the strange alcohol laws were because I live in the Bible Belt. When I was a kid you couldn't buy toys on a Sunday, it was called the Blue Law and it was due to some type religious zealotry.

We will only be able to buy beer and wine locally, for liquor we still have to drive into Dallas.

At least all the tax dollars generated from the beer and wine sales will be going into our town and not Dallas or the already ultra-rich Plano.

"A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine."

- alec

We had blue laws too when I was a kid, only nothing was open on a Sunday.

Actually it was quite nice for everyone to be off, part of me wishes they'd go back to it. :)

They still have the ancient blue laws in MA. They're ridiculous.

I went and had a couple beers last night for the first time since before Xmas, and I was surprised to discover that one of my favorite little Import havens (Subs & Six Packs, Sam) still has Victory's Old Horizontal.

I was under the impression that it was a seasonal brew (and the website confirms: Thanksgiving through January), but the woman working said they're selling a lot of it and have no trouble getting it.

It's pretty amazing how buzzed you can get on 4-12 oz (10.5% ABV) beers after not drinking for 4½ months.
