filemaker pro web hosting - 03/17/05 06:56 PM

i want to start using surveys in my teaching as a chance to get mucho feedback. i looked into some survey sites online and they're kinda pricey (e.g., zoomerang, surveygold). i have filemaker pro 7 and i know i can create and host my own database files, which could be the surveys i create; however, i hate using my work PC as a host at the same time. i'd like to know if anyone knows of some trustworthy and affordable FMP web hosting services that could host my FMP survey databases as i create them. TIA.

--
Straw-man rhetorical techniques are the practice of refuting weaker arguments than one's opponents offer. 2 "set up a straw man" or "set up a straw-man argument" is 2 create a position easily refuted, then attribute that position to your opponent.

i'll check it out. thanks. i built some FM Pro databases back in the 90s and haven't touched it since then. my wife bought it last year and we've had it sitting in the box since then. i suppose i should install it and try and make use of it.

i also just found survey monkey, which is free if i can keep my surveys to 10 questions or less. hmmm.

--
Straw-man rhetorical techniques are the practice of refuting weaker arguments than one's opponents offer. 2 "set up a straw man" or "set up a straw-man argument" is 2 create a position easily refuted, then attribute that position to your opponent.

I use FM7 on a regular basis. If you need help just let me know. FM7 is a bit different (structurally) than previous versions.

yeah, i had a thought late last night of using some of my professional development funds to purchase a mac-mini and installing FM Pro on it. i could leave it at work and make it a server. i have no more than 100 students in any semester and i would only use it with my students, so i doubt i have 5 trying to access it at the same time . . . and, the surveys would only take about 5 minutes. i'll have to fiddle around with FM Pro to see if i am too far gone or not. it's nice to know that you're skilled with it. hopefully i stick with it long enough to get to ask you some questions.

just opened it and it's crummy that none of the templates are surveys.

--
Straw-man rhetorical techniques are the practice of refuting weaker arguments than one's opponents offer. 2 "set up a straw man" or "set up a straw-man argument" is 2 create a position easily refuted, then attribute that position to your opponent.

sean, I'm sure they probably have some old desolate PC's lying around the school somewhere. You don't need a big fancy box to host a FM database like you're talking about, hell an old pentium would do fine.

I'd go ask IT if they can dig up an old machine for you to use, then it won't cost anything.
