Is YouSend It good for that?

Just got an email from them...



I just need for customers to have access.
I know a lot of you are touting Drop Box.

I guess my problem with DropBox is ... does the customer need to download and install dropbox in order to send and receive files from me...yes. What a pain... I just want to send them a link they can upload to and download from.... just like Mobile Me's file storage.

Correction... no. They don't need DB to download a file.




But they can't upload.

A few of my vendors use DB. I'm not impressed. But I, too, have been giving some though to YouSendIt. One of my video production vendors uses it, and as you might imagine, the files they're sharing are much-o grande, but handle like itty-bitty files. But I'm also considering the FTP function that comes w/my Network Solutions hosting package. That might be a little more secure for proprietary client files.

DropBox takes up very little space and resources, it's free, and you could set up shared folders for each client (only that client has access to that specific folder), it's free, and files automagically sync between you and the client. It's free.

Yah, but how much does it cost?

I hear you MB... but then I gotta ask clients to install DB. Some clients are still complete and utter computer bufoons....

Oh, well. I guess you can't fix stupid, but DB is stupid simple.

With yousendit they have to at least register for an account then they can upload/download from the web interface from folders you make for them and set permissions on. They can download the app too.

If you didn't have the need for them to upload you could just use your website online space without extra cost.

Upload FTP to your domain web space is still a free option too if they give you enough ftp accounts but that does require a bit of internet knowledge for the uploader to install/launch an ftp app.

idisk was pretty easy for the person you're sending the files to to use. yousendit is probably just about as easy except for the requirement of the other side having to set up an account to upload files.

I see, thanks. What they want in the future is to make one sign up for Dropbox to use it. As it is now one doesn't need to be logged in or have an account to access a Public folder.

Well, I've decided to go with a combo of DB (after all) and the FTP option in my Network Solutions hosting package. The free version of DB meets my needs, and the more clients and vendors I invite, the more storage I earn. No one client can see or access the others' folders, so I don't even need the public folder. I'm hosting images for CL ads and all of my images for this site on NetSol. My iDisk is empty now — broom-clean, as they say, so Apple can have the keys any time.

It makes sense, since you can link to any file in your DB.
