New Sign-Up/Log-In Issues

New Sign-Up/Log-In Issues - 06/05/13 01:30 PM

.
It's come to my attention that a few acquaintances
of mine tried to join our forum but were unable to
either log-in or create a new account using older
versions of FireFox and Tiger(10.4?) on older Macs
that can no longer be updated.

Both dumped their Forum Cookies but not the cache,
Opera and Firefox are a No-Go, but one member was
able to finally sign in using Safari.

They were also not able to retrieve New/Temporary
Passwords using newer e-mail addresses.

Is there a known issue using older versions of
everyone's favorite (default) Browser?

Or is it perhaps blocked as part of our SPAM FILTER?

...or...?

Can you please advise or help?

. . .

Exactly what happened? That's a little vague. Error messages etc? Did they receive an email reset link or did it error out when requesting a new password?

Doano the details. frown
Doano the right questions to ask.
Difficult to get in direct contact with
anyone except when they kinda' do a fly by.

but I'll do what I can to relay messages.

#1 : Does the member have to use the Same E-Mail
Address that they'd signed up with years ago? or
will will it go to a more recent one if they can
get as far as a Re-Set Request?

I can change what's called the real email address, but I can't change the registration address, nor can I do a send password.

Will have to wait for Neil to check in on this.

Quote:
When I attempt to sign in with last known account name and password I get the message User name not known.. So if I try and register the same name or any name .. all that changes when the page reloads is that it highlights whatever username I try and register in a red box. Nothing else.. no explanations, messages or emails.

Can she make a new account with that account name they say is not known?

PM me the account name, or post it here.

My concern is also how many other members
may have tried to return, but having no
contacts, were forced to give up trying. frown

New users can create new ID's with no problem. I just did it to test something out.

Not sure why it would be an older browser issue, but maybe it is? Maybe if they went to say a library or friend's house, registered a new user there, then returned home and logged in with this new ID?

Re: New Sign-Up/Log-In Issues - 07/12/13 08:17 AM

so, it's only limited to the old machines?

Don't know. My iMac is from 2008. Maybe if someone had an old iMac they could test that out.

Re: New Sign-Up/Log-In Issues - 07/12/13 08:34 AM

Might this have something to do with the registration issues I mentioned in the Mod's forum? Not being able to register from the forums Log In page but being able to register from the MacTech home page?

Re: New Sign-Up/Log-In Issues - 07/12/13 08:36 AM

very much doubt it.

I registered from the forums page
I tried last week. I could register but not log in, and it never shows up in the user list. If I registered through Mactech.com it would work though.

Hmm..I was able to log in.

Check out my post in the Mod area, what did your registration window look like?

Re: New Sign-Up/Log-In Issues - 07/12/13 09:32 AM

Using Chrome, this is what I did:

First, I clicked the Register link:

Then it took me to this window. I filled out the part on the right.

Then I logged in to the forums.

Re: New Sign-Up/Log-In Issues - 07/12/13 10:02 AM

Okay, I see now, the Register User link from the main forum page works.

Log Out, then click the Log In link. Go to register here on the log in window page, it takes you to MacNews to register which is a different registration page. It registers you for the websites, but the registration doesn't populate from there to the forums.

Such is so...

When I asked Bird
that was what she had done,
if you try logging in from the MainPage,
AppleCentral... the Log-In takes you in an
infinite loop of denying your Log-In Info.
Throughout which you are unable to access
the POSTING OPTIONS.

Ms.Bird was finally able to Log-In using
an older version of Safari thru MacTech.
The other member gave up until the issue's
resolved, or a work-around is worked out.

Do you mean she tried from this Applecentral page? If so where did she go from there.

If you meant the forum main page and not the Applecentral page (the forum software automatically makes Applecentral a link) what link did she click on that didn't work, does she remember?

Thanks.

≈

I stupidly clicked on all 3 links
created by typing the words... cry

But I can't be sure...
it's difficult being a non-tech-savvy go-between
when no two member-wannabees are together at any given time. frown

Re: New Sign-Up/Log-In Issues - 07/12/13 01:56 PM

One thing we might try is for ME to create an account,
get a password, then allow the member-wannabee
to take over the account & Change the Password.

For that matter... couldn't you do the same
thing, and "cut-out-the-middle-man"? laugh

We could do something like that. I'll be in touch later tonight. PM what user name you want it to be.

Don't feel slighted...
She didn't call either of us.

It was me who initiated a call
A) because I was missing her, &
B) because I know she'd been having problems
with her old "Toilet-Seat" and updating FireFox.

When she hadn't poked her beak in after
such a long time, I reckoned it was time
to check in to make sure everything was OK. smile

AusMac, home on the [forum] Range! Hope it was worth all the trouble. Not many of us here. But maybe now that the door hinges have been oiled and broke loose from their frozen state -- others will walk in for a look see. smile
