WAB DLL is missing - 01/06/14 07:25 AM

Hey Windows users, WTH is a WAB DLL file, and why do I need it to open/run Outlook address book?
Outlook crashes when trying to send emails, or add a contact.

PS. I hate Clippy.

Re: WAB DLL is missing - 01/06/14 08:32 AM

Windows 7 and Outlook/Office 2000.

I can't believe Windows 7 doesn't include an email program, and I happened to have an old version of Office. I was helping a friend over the phone this weekend, but she will bring in her laptop this morning to see if I can fix it.

Riiiiiiight.

Looks like Office 2000 is not compatible with Windows 7.

I'm having her download and install Windows Live Mail.
Why is this not included with Windows 7???

That was the link I was going to send you to. smile

Windows Live Essentials has a Mail app BTW. Maybe do a custom install if it will let you if you don't want all of the other crap. Windows software update should have it but I know that won't let you customize.

Re: WAB DLL is missing - 01/07/14 09:30 AM

So that didn't work either.
Had her bring in the laptop.

1TB HD.
12MB left.
I have no words.

200,000 photos of her kid. "But I want to keep them with me all the time!"

Me: "You should backup".
Her: "What's backup? I just want it to work. Should I buy a new computer?"

I've always heard of people like this, never thought I'd meet one…

Well with all that detail I don't know why I can't figure out what's going on with Mail. smirk

12MB left, really? With 12MB left I don't see how it's even running. 200,000 photos, I'm thinking that's an exageration for effect?

One problem I see all of the time is people's photo libraries being huge because of cameras being sold on "you who dies with the most megapixels wins." 99% of people buying a camera don't need the resolution big enough to make billboards. 3.2 MP will make a fine 4x6 print and only be a 1.2-1.5M file size as compared to 16 MP cameras being almost 5M.

Two good links.

File size.

Print size.

If she is storing them as RAW, it gets much more ridiculous as you can see from the charts above.

BTW Windows has a built in backup system.

I'll be in touch. Give you call later today after lunch?

Re: WAB DLL is missing - 01/07/14 11:12 AM

200,000? Yes, I'm exaggerating. I didn't have time to look at what's filling the HD.

12MB? No exaggerating. That's when I stopped.

As far as mail, all I got was an error saying something like "Not enough memory to complete this task", regardless of what settings I put in.

Went to my Mac, added account no problem, so at least I know her mail is working.

She took her laptop, and will be buying a new HD for backup.
No need to call. YET…
She'll be back in a couple days. smile

More than likely there's not enough disk space left to build a database. A Disk Cleanup may help a little, but she needs some major manual disk cleanup probably.

Try WinDirStat. It's like Grand Perspective for Mac. It shows files in a Graphic interface.

BTW it is a CNET download site with a lot of BS Download Now links, so make sure you click the green Download Now button under WinDirStat. The other downloads are the tuneup your PC sh¡t types.

I have no idea what can be eating up that much space unless someone's downloading a lot of torrents or videos or something. Or maybe it's infected and being used as an FTP server or email bot.

It can be photos. I started my wife on a digital years ago and she now has about 75 GBs of photos. I have them backed up... on several blu rays and my RAID.
She is a true shutterbug.

Porn. It's gotta be porn. wink

Well, we've been emailing back and forth since this morning, so I guess it's working.
Now it's time to explain how to plug in an external HD… cry

75G? He's talking about filling a 1000G (1TB) drive though.

I do, even though the lack of logic behind it makes my head hurt very time.

But then I understand you, same thing. grin
