More Dull problems! - 01/08/10 07:08 PM

This time, When I try to put my 2 Gig SD card in the SD reader on the side, It makes the sound like it detected, it, but It doesn't show up in My Computer. I waited an hour- Nothing.
It works fine with my 128 MB card and my dad said it should read any capacity. What's up?

Which model exactly is the Dull again?

Does the card work in anything else?

Inspiron 6000 (BTO)

Yes, the card works fine in my camera.

Does the card reader show up in Device Manager? Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager, try without and then with the card in it.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/08/10 08:58 PM

Yeah, It detects my other card.
Heres a video (of My favorite xbox360 game) from my 128MB card, Its not big enough to really do anything with. Like I said, it should be able to read any card.

Check out Device Manager like I suggested, try it without and then with the 2G card in to see if Device Manager recognizes the card, or changes the description of the reader or anything when the card is put in.

If you need to get the pics off the card you can probably plug your camera in and just use it as the reader. Not ideal but it may work.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/08/10 09:28 PM

I did all that. nothing. And I dont have a cable for my camera.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/08/10 09:38 PM

Wait, it said in device manager when I put the card in: "device cannot be started (code 10)"
what could it mean?

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/08/10 10:24 PM

Do you have XP SP3 installed? SP3 fixed mainly SDHC card problems, but it was to correct a fault of XP to read the drivers. MS has a hotfix if you're on SP2.

hotfix

It's x pro sp3.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/09/10 10:53 AM

Is that an SDHC card?

The card reader in that dell only accepts SD cards. If your card is marked SDHC it won't work no matter what you try.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/09/10 11:06 AM

No, it's not. It's just SD.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/09/10 02:09 PM

Then it should work. How is the card formatted?
Posted by: Silver_Moon

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/09/10 02:15 PM

However my Kodak formats it. I dunno.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/09/10 02:20 PM

Is this a new card? In other words has it ever worked in there? If there isn't anything much on the card try and reformat it in the camera in case there's corruption.

You might want to apply the hotfix anyway if that doesn't work.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/09/10 02:26 PM

No, it's not new. I've formatted it twice. It works in my camerA. No it has never worked in the Dull

Too large (Gb-wise)?

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/09/10 02:48 PM

No. My dad has used a three gig before.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/09/10 03:33 PM

Does his 3G still work in it? 3G is an odd size, maybe it was 4?
Posted by: Silver_Moon

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/09/10 04:02 PM

He doesn't have it anymore. This is the only card that hasn't worked.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/09/10 04:11 PM

Other than applying the hotfix I'm at a loss without having another 2G or better card to try in it.

Have you tried Googling the brand of card using Inspiron as a search term to see if there are any reports?

No. I haven't.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/10/10 07:55 AM

Just as a shot in the dark, the card isn't password protected is it?

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/10/10 11:39 AM

It sees my other card.
Posted by: MacBozo

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/10/10 02:29 PM

I'm not sure about these things, but your other card, being smaller capacity, may have different pin locations/number.

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/10/10 02:34 PM

Nope. They don't.
Posted by: SgtBaxter

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/10/10 03:06 PM

Take a picture of the card and post it.

The camera connects okay, right?

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/10/10 04:58 PM

The 2GB

The 128MB, the one that it sees.
(they are both PNY)

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/10/10 05:42 PM

Go back to Device Manager and uninstall the driver for the card slot, restart and it will install the driver again. See if that helps.
Posted by: Silver_Moon

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/10/10 07:00 PM

I will tomorrow.
Posted by: SgtBaxter

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/10/10 07:21 PM

I see the problem. The SD reader doesn't accept blurry cards! wink
Posted by: Silver_Moon

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/12/10 03:29 PM

Reboot, all it says when I right click on the reader in device manager is uninstall. Is that what I want?
Posted by: Jim_

Re: More Dull problems! - 01/12/10 05:22 PM

That's the ticket. Then reboot the computer, it will find new hardware, and install the driver again.

Hopefully.
