I haven't seen PCs come with backup discs for a while now. Most PCs now come with an extra partition, a restore partition. It works well, if the HD isn't fried. You have the choice to make restore DVD's from the partition when you first start the machine up, or at a later date manually, most people don't. You can also order them, for a fee of course.

Re: *sigh* - 12/14/09 07:02 PM

Doesn't it have a restore partition?

Re: *sigh* - 12/14/09 07:19 PM

Nooo. it doesnt. they stopped making Inspiron 6000s before that.

Re: *sigh* - 12/14/09 09:51 PM

Are you sure? Did you try this?

Re: *sigh* - 12/15/09 03:11 AM

Yes.

Re: *sigh* - 12/15/09 03:28 AM

Was it bought used? Someone must have reformatted the HD then at some point? That would have wiped out the restore part.

Re: *sigh* - 12/15/09 04:15 AM

No. We got it new. in 2005. It never came with that. I know for a fact.

One reason I don't buy factory built PC's. Restore partition means you've just lost a bunch of space on your HD, and like you say if the HD fails you're SOL.

Re: *sigh* - 12/15/09 05:57 AM

BTW your machine should have a windows sticker on the side or somewhere else with the windows license number. You can ask a neighbor if they have a disk (XP I'm assuming?) and restore it with that, just use your license number to activate.

Re: *sigh* - 12/16/09 05:07 PM

The discs came. It's not picking up my router. Help?

Re: *sigh* - 12/16/09 05:09 PM

Is that your router or the "shared" one nearby? the router may need to reboot in order to connect to the Dull.

Re: *sigh* - 12/16/09 05:22 PM

The shared one.

Re: *sigh* - 12/16/09 06:21 PM

you've GOT to be kidding me! No drivers whatsoever. mad iow am I supposed to get them?
Posted by: MacBozo

Re: *sigh* - 12/16/09 06:29 PM

That was one of the arguments against Mac OS X. They said the install for OS X was bloated because it included all those drivers. laugh

You'll have to get them from the individual manufacturers web sites. Many installs/restarts and they still might not work. Wonderful, eh?

Does the PC see the wireless card?
Posted by: Silver_Moon

Re: *sigh* - 12/17/09 03:12 AM

Thatsbuilt in, itdoesnt see the router.

Re: *sigh* - 12/17/09 03:53 AM

Does the wireless card show up okay in Device Manager?

If it does and it's built in I doubt it's a driver issue.

Re: *sigh* - 12/17/09 04:15 AM

I have no drivers.
i don't know if it sees it. Dell sent the wrong driver disc and I need to get it on the Internet so I can get the drivers. mad
