Good bye PC BIOS?

I was trying to find a howto on making podzilla skins for my iPod and I came across this.

I just wonder about hardware support...

You can change the hardware configurations in the terminal or recompile the kernel modules with different hardware settings. Other then that Linux doesn't need a BIOS. Just needs a bootloader and the kernel acts as hardware support.
