Fading iMac screen

Fading iMac screen - 03/28/14 01:01 PM

I've got a 27" iMac that's about five years old and I've noticed some dim areas, mostly noticeable on the gray startup screen. It's never been edge-to-edge bright, even when it was new, with dim edges down the sides of the screen. that was fine, I could live with it and when I'm working it's not noticeable. Now that it's older though, it's getting some sort-of horizontal larger regions of dimness through the middle-left of the screen.

I realize this is probably just age, but is there a fix for it?

Possibly screen burn-in?

Not an easy or cheap fix.

You can use an external monitor instead too if the problem is too bad.

Jim, you saw that slight unevenness on the startup screen w/my 27" TB display. But it's not there once everything has loaded.

External monitor is probably going to be the cheapest, fastest, easiest fix.

Thanks for the input everyone. Once I'm working it's hardly noticeable unless I look for it. I'll deal with it until I have to replace the whole machine I guess.
