Problems Waking from Sleep Mode

Problems Waking from Sleep Mode - 01/25/14 10:06 AM

Ever since my move (breaking down & hooking up)
my G4 2002, every time it enters Sleep Mode
even though the Display goes blank, I can hear
the HardDrive running full on... but when I press
anykey or move the Mouse to view the Display
it remains blank (black) and nothing responds,
forcing me to do an illegal Shut-Down/Restart
to return the G4 to normal.

Lather/Rinse/Repeat every time it goes to Sleep,
whether it times-out thru Energy Saver, or if
I select "SLEEP" through the Apple Menu. frown

Do you have anything plugged in to your USB 2 card? Remember, add on USB 2 cards don't support deep sleep on G4s when mass storage devices are plugged in. Hard drives, flash drives, USB card readers, printers with USB card readers built in etc.

PROBLEM:

I stuck in the USB2 pci card
to service A) My Aluminum Keyboard
plus Pro Mouse & PowerMate scroll device.

...and B) My iPhone Sync Cable

Although I Restart following every Sync,
I CANNOT do without my USB2 Keyboard nor
The two USB1 Devices Plugged Into It.

It's the same config. I'd always used. shocked

Between the last test run/illegal restart,
I even switched them, plugged them in and
Restarted --- NO JOY --- frown

Might it make a difference IN WHICH ORDER
I'd plugged in one (or all?)of my peripherals?

Okay I'll try and follow. Why do you restart every sync?

2. It freezes when you reboot too?

3. If the phone is plugged in, that is probably the mass storage device that is causing problems on sleep or reboot.

BTW, I went to my doctor and said doc, it hurts when I do this. He said don't do that. grin

Don't let it deep sleep, just let the monitor go to sleep.

The only time I plug the iPhone into the G4
is when I Sync it (or Add an App. or Music)
when I'm done, I have to do a restart or it
HAS WAKING ISSUES FOLLOWING SLEEP MODE (DUH!)

Otherwise,
I Charge the iPhone (or iPod) straight from
an electrical outlet using an Apple adapter.

I'm sure that was the temp fix that worked...
...however for the past few months, I was able
to put it in Deep Sleep Mode through the Apple
Pull-Down...which avoided it running 24/7/365.

Even if you unplug the phone and cable from the computer?

What else do you have plugged in to the USB card, I'm too lazy to go back and look up. grin

Hmm, try zapping the PRAM and resetting the PMU.

I have my aluminum keyboard which requires USB2
and to devises (the mouse & a scrolling dial)
plugged into the keyboard's USB ports.

OK, and Thanx for the APPLE How-To link. smile

Can't perform the PRAM Stretch WITHOUT a KEYBOARD.

All my USB1 Keyboards are still in Storage.
...but I'm willing to try with the KB plugged in...
Ain't got much to lose at this point... blush

The keyboard requires USB 2, are you sure? Even the one currently being sold by Apple says 1.1 will work.

GIVE THAT BOY A RAISE!

2 *BONGS* while holding down P+R+Option+Command worked!

**you were also correct in that the Aluminum KB works using USB1

Well, yeah. smirk

It is USB 2, and the USB ports are USB 2, if hooked to USB 2.

We always said three bongs were the magic number but 2 works in a pinch.

*Hours Later*

The G4 woke from deep sleep flawlessly,
but the Keyboard could no longer support the 2
USB1 devises, so I took a chance and re-plugged
the keyboard into the USB2 port, put the G4 into
DeepSleep thru the Apple Pull-Down, and it again
failed to restart.

too tired to mess with it any more right now

CORRECT-A-MUNDO!

I switched the Connector from the USB2 pci port
to the native USB1 instead of the USB1 Hub and
everything started working again without a hitch.

Aha, you were using USB hub, if it wasn't a powered hub that could be a problem.

Re: Problems Waking from Sleep Mode - 01/26/14 09:41 AM

It IS a Belkin powered Hub.

The Sleep Problem came from plugging the
Alum. Keyboard plus Mousing devices into
the USB2/Firewire 800 pci card.

When I switched the Keyboard + into the
powered hub, it couldn't support the extra
devices unless I plugged each separately
into the hub... in which case they couldn't
reach my keyboard shelf.

The FIX was switching the keyboard + from
the USB2 pci port to the native USB1 port.

Everything fits & functions as intended. smile
