Drives won't open

Have 2 drives on tower and both refuse to open from kb but open fine from Toast.
What do I reset for that...PRAM?

Edit that: Toast had a little resistance from them at first... but then opened.

I can hear the drive mechanism trying to open... but it doesn't.

Odd that both would go bad at the same time. When you hear the drive mech is that from the kb?

If you hold/tape the doors down will the tray open?

Boot from the Recovery partition if on one of the Lions, or from an install DVD if lower, have a disc in the other tray. Launch Disk Utility from the Installer screen and see if the disc ejects okay from there, to eliminate software. I don't know if the kb would work then but you can try that too.

It's weird.
I don't think it's any kind of hardware issue like the case or doors getting in the way. It just seems to be stuck. After burning several items with Toast... I quit Toast and now the trays eject on both just fine.

On another note... I accidentally found out the Option-"Sound MUTE" key combo brings up the Sound Pref Pane.

Also, Option + either brightness key brings up the displays panel, and Option + Mission Control key brings up that panel.
