I saw this the other day. How is is that they're dying? Can a hard drive replacement fix it?

A couple of bad capacitors on the power supply. Some say it has to do with lack of ventilation and have modded the fan to run all the time. Heat kills.

Heat kills - we all know that but when it comes to HDs you don't think so now do ya Pal laugh

When I pull out capacitors that have gone bad it really isn't heat, it's more like fire. They go up in a puff of smoke. (Luckily nothing like that happens inside hard drives. ;-O )

Damn carp, what is your problem, you are the most argumentative SOB. Geez.

Re-read the thread you're referencing. You never answered my question in it either.

Your drive died. In another thread you mentioned that in your opinion you thought it was too hot at the vents at the top of the iMac, so heat killed your drive. Anecdotal evidence, unless your finger tips are highly calibrated instruments. grin

I gotta say, those TimeCapsule/Airport's do run pretty darn hot - even with plenty of open space around them.

Literally 2 days after ordering my AEB they released Time Capsule. I was a bit miffed at missing another product and bought a separate external drive for TM.

Seems it all worked out for the best.
