Any luck with 10.1.4? - 04/21/02 07:13 AM

I have always been very reluctant to upgrade for fear of losing settings or serial numbers and would like to know if it is that much of an improvement to upgrade to 10.1.4.
I know that it is largly directed towards security issues and I am very nervous to do it. I don't want to lose any of my router settings either.
Now that I have talked about it, I think I will wait for the next major update (10.2 ?)

I don't have a router, so don't know about that. But what I have found out about 10.1.4 is that Sherlock and the Finder sure seem to have been souped up some.

The way I found out about the finder is when I go to the Applications folder, using icons, I would scroll fast and halfway down got the spinning beachball and it would hesitate for a second or two. (this is on a G4/500 with 1GB of ram).

Now..no hesitation at all..and no beachball! Definately has been a very nice upgrade for me!

Sherlock is lickity split fast now!!

Not problems here with 10.1.4. Cable Modem, printer, QPS Firewire and SuperDisk works fine. No conflict with any app. Now the build is 5Q125

What I always wonder is how those on dial-up get these updates. Mind you, 10.1.4 was just a 1.5MB download from 10.1.3, but I recently upgraded my PowerBook G4 from 10.1 to 10.1.4 and must have downloaded close to 100MB of updates... does Apple expect a dial-up user to sit there for 3 hours to apply a software update?

I think they would rather you buy a whole new Mac so you get the updated CD's...

[color:red]semicolon dash parenthesis

Snappier probably just because the system gets optimized with the install. No problems with 10.1.4, everything works as before.
