You can change the size of the font in the View Options under the View menu in Finder, but I don't know about changing the actual font.

Thanks, people. Guess that's something I just have to live with. The current font is shadowed and as I get older it appears blurred. Just wanted to change it to something like Times new roman.

If you change your desktop color to a solid dark background it makes it easier to read. I don't know of any way to remove the shadow entirely. I'll check around.

TinkerTool System will (supposedly) allow you to change the font, but I've not tried it, and have heard that it only works with a very select few fonts.
