So, I'm curious to hear about people's experiences with the titanium PBs. I hear great and I hear misery. Expected, I suppose. But I have lots of questions before I buy ... for example ....

1. How do the harmon-kardon soundsticks sound with the pb?
2. Anyone have good or bad experiences buying at an online merchant? I think you can't beat the price and sales tax savings, but only if the product is as good as it sounds.
3. I just found out that you can transfer files between a PB and an iMac or other desktop Mac via firewire! Awesome. Anyone else know that or I am the last?

So, let's start replying here about anything and everything titanium. Let's make Stan proud and start racking up the posts!

Edited by scottk on 05/19/01 06:15 PM (server time).

So then, Stan .. tell me and the rest of your captivated audience ... has your experience with the tibook been as good as you had hoped? Apparently if you did all this on it, the answer seems obvious, but it's worth digging deeper into.

Any troubles with ...

1. Non-ejecting CDs/DVDs?
2. Noisy hard drives?
3. Keys falling off?
4. tinny sound out of the right speaker?

These are just a few of the things I've read, and while I don't doubt they exist, I know that at least 99 percent of people are happy with their tibooks.

And, what do you think will happen in July/August? I've read a lot about revisions and preinstalled OSX. Thoughts?

I have had some problems with the CD/DVD not ejecting properly, but nothing too serious. The hard drive doesn't seem noisy to me at all, but I find the system will overheat after a few hours, so that is a bit of a pain in the behind.

No keys have fallen off, and I find the speakers extraordinarily good for their size.

Stan

When you say overheat do you mean seriously as in a big problem or just as in it gets way too warm for your lap?

No, I mean it starts acting very funny. After I shut down for a few minutes it returns to normal. I have to get it checked, but I just haven't got the time at the moment! :-)

Hmmmm. Yeah. Sounds like something to get checked. Do you think Apple will release the revision sometime this summer as is rumored? What about the preinstallation of OSX? You think that's coming real soon, too?

I would suspect that Apple won't release a revision to the TiBook until January -- at the earliest. As for Mac OS X being preinstalled, that has been announced for the summer -- Macworld Expo in New York, I would think...
