All of a sudden the Superdrive won't mount. It isn't seen on the desktop or in iTunes. Won't play any type of CD, and requires my password to eject out of iTunes.
I do have a new motherboard and know it must be some sort of software issue. I have done the fsck and macjanitor. I have ordered Disk Warrior and it will be in next week. I just don't want to compound the problem. This is what happens when I try to even update the superdrive.
Any suggestions? Thanks! Now, the iPod is not mounting either! This is exactly the same problem as before and they replaced the motherboard.
Edited by sross on 08/29/03 06:54 PM (server time).

Ws about to respond, Sherman, but saw over at MC that you solved it already. Funny thing that drjohn's problems were connected to bad RAM too. I never paid much attention to TTP's hardware testing suite, but I guess the RAM test is worth doing!

Alas, poor Yorick. -- Hamlet

My ram test was good old "yank and poke." When I ran the hardware test disk, it didn't show any issues. I pulled the ram sticks out one by one and, sure enough, it was my "upgrade" stick from the original purchase.
I just ordered two ram sticks from Crucial, and hopefully, that will be the end of the big mystery. What I find interesting, is that the Apple store tech folks couldn't find it and went so far as to replace the logic board. (Not that I'm complaining )
My big concern is that it may be the slots and the logicboard is affected when the ram is put in. Oh well, we'll see about that another time.
It sure was a perplexing situation. Thanks for the encouragement.

Well, at least I know I have one good slot and will just have to see when the sticks come in.
In fact, what I think I will do is load them one at a time and do restarts.

Really? Uh, not to sound too stupid or anything, but do you mean the little bitty button under the bigger button on the front?
I closed it up without doing anything. What am I supposed to do? (when the new ram comes in)

Sherman, Steve was just playing with you. You had said you were going to hit the reset button after everytime you put a ram stick in....

here, let me knock Steve about the head for you

My stuff for sale.
I don't know what you are talking about, John.
I didn't say I was going to "hit the reset button" after every time I put a ram stick in...........did I?
