MM's front page has a link to a letter from a Real employee about an X version of RelPlayer. It won't be out till the end of the year, the guy says--really guessing, it sounds like. But at least now there's some sense that Real is working on it.

And that's true too.--Shakespeare, King Lear

I know what you mean, OSXaddict. Some time ago our lovely cable company, which had been feeding radio stations through its wires, decided to drop all FM stations. That meant that i coulnd't get NPR at home any more. I thought' I'd die.

Then I discovered that the Philly NPR station, WHYY, webcasts its signal, so I said, who needs cable! Everything was fine until I installed X. WHYY webcasts only with Real. So I emailed them. They said, tough nuggets chump. So I said, you ain't getting another penny from me, bubba. And they said . . . .

In short, it was useless.

Fortunately NPR.com does ahve a QuickTime feed. It's not quite the same as getting a real station, but it does for me.

And that's true too.--Shakespeare, King Lear

Isn't NPR funded by taxes? So whether you want to give them your money or not, they will get it.

I'm not sure if it's the late night or the beer..but is realmedia the same as realplayer? Can realplayer play .rm files?

Local NPR stations are funded only very slightly by federal money. They need ervenue from listeners and "advertisers"--except they're called underwriters instead.

And that's true too.--Shakespeare, King Lear

As for .rm files, to the best of my knowledge they are RealMedia, accessible only by Real Player, as are .ram files.

What I can't get my head around.. is why .. anyone wants to listen to radio on a computer..I meean .. we have had radio so long now ... why don't we use that? It is the same with the phone .. why?? Why do we want to make our computers do something that the phone has always done better?
well .. anyway that aside..
Under the constraints of my bandwidth, Real Player is a dog to actually use on classic, for me anyway. I tossed it out years back .. if it is not on as a QuickTime accessible file, I don't even want to attempt it.

I even went to the trouble of disabling my browser's capacity to read such files .. tracked down every file containing the word "real" and ditched them all.

Nowadays nothing can function even if I inadvertently trip over a real media file link, and all I can say is thank God for giving me the ability to be able to rid myself of that encumberment.

I pray that they never port it to X.

But if they do I will just remove it all the same.

When I port to X that is.

Classic ain't dead yet...., for me anyway.

=============================================================
| "Behold the Turtle, he maketh no progress ==== until he sticketh out his neck." |
=============================================================
