A couple of days ago, as I was walking my pooch back home, I was fortunate enough to hear the following comments, yelled across the street by a new "neighbor" who moved in two doors up the hill from us just last month. Let me paint the picture for you. In the door to this guy's house is a little boy, maybe five years old. Across the street is his mother, who has just left him and is getting into her car to drive away. Across the other stree is the father, yelling at the boy, full volume.

This is what he says: Hey you little c*cks*ck*r, why're you crying. Aw the little m*th*rf*ck*r doesn't have any friends and wants his b*tch back with him.

(I haven't quoted exactly, but the key words are accurate, and the general sense of what he said is also).

So what do you think should happen to people like this?

And that's true too.--Shakespeare, King Lear

Unfortunately, the parents stupidity probably got filtered down into the kids... so if you're gonna wax the parents, you probably have to get the kids too.

Amazing. Some people simply stagger the imagination.

[color:red]semicolon dash parenthesis

I'm just thinking... if my father ever said anything like that (let alone yelling it across the street) she would have grabbed a large blunt object and beat him about the head and shoulder area.

[color:red]semicolon dash parenthesis

In reply to:

she would have grabbed a large blunt object and beat him about the head and shoulder area

I thought of doing that myself. But it's a pretty scary situation. There are gang connections, it looks like, so it wouldn't stop with one incident. Everyone in the neighborhood calls the cops on these people regularly. So far they seem to stupid to take the hint that they're not welcome.

And that's true too.--Shakespeare, King Lear

You said it in the subject line....stupid people. It never ceases to amaze me the level of ignorance that is exhibited by some.
The only hope in that situation is that the kids are smarter than the parents. Unfortunetly, the parents influence has probably ruined these kids already.

.. we put less money into education and teaching, and more money into the military. Oh wait, that's what helped caused this in the first place, right..?

Do you rhumba? Excellent! Now pick a rhumba and sit down.. GM

come again? I don't follow our national budget as closely as some... are you saying that we spend too much on the military and too little on education? I'm looking to be persuaded here, so please go ahead.

Statistics are like a bikini. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.
-- Aaron Levenstein

(skips over the ignorant comment about the budget and education since that has absolutely nothing to do with this subject)

Hopefully the kid will not be totally influenced by his idiots he calls "mom and dad". I have seen it happen...a kid calls CPS to get help cause he doesn't want to live in that environment.

I'm not so sure that NTO1's point is as irrelevant as you suppose. Our culture has become exceedingly vulgar during the past 50 years or so-- and this is evident in countless ways. Children aren't taught the value of simple manners as I believe they once were. I have no statistics to back this claim up, but it seems to me that the vast majority of families today contain not one but two working parents. So someone's got to instill values in our children. What's it going to be? the television? Gaming consoles? The internet? Oh.... wait.. they do spend an good portion of their time in schools, don't they? Would it be a fair assumption to believe that they're learning values in schools? What are we to we supposed to think as we digest the stark reality that teachers on the average make 23k to 35k to start while our so called leaders are shelling out the funds they do in the name of defense? The priorities of our government seem clear enough. Does that reflect yours too? It doesn't reflect mine

Ok..so now you are saying that our schools are the educators of values and manners?

Geez..where did I miss that? I seem to recall that my parents were the ones who did that!! And morality is also based by attending church and all that...schools, (correct me if I'm wrong), are the place for education in knowledge for future employment and such. Sure, there are some education in schools in regards to values/morals, but the responsibility lays squarely on the parents.

Another problem is the fact that there are 2 working parents..that's a problem with the "keeping up with the Jones'" or lack of education to advance up the pay scale.

My brother's wives all stay home and raised their kids. Did they struggle? Yeah..some did, but the reward of raising your kids, knowing what's going on in their lives, not letting the TV/playstation/internet be their nanny, let alone some stranger...outweighs any benefits a 2nd job would help.

So...let's see...what was that about defense vs education? I think this is an age old arguement that is so tired and old. Next thing you know you will be blaming Republicans for all of this!
